I absorb the words
Paraphrase in my mind
It echos meaning, a spark
Side step dread
Raise your voice
Stutter and repeat
And again
Rethink
Pronounce
Concentrate
React.
Repeat
Your eyes flicker across the room
Looking for something to latch on to
It's so easy to look at the floor, but you must not
Feel the eyes scanning over you
A gnawing anxiousness is telling you to leave
But you can't,
For, it's against the law
You blend in as much as you could
Can't speak
Bite your tongue. Swallow your words.
Can't carry a sentence? They did this
The law did this
Irrational words echoing in my mind yelling;
Coming out of the strict lady with the unsympathetic stare.
You're one of her favorites, yet your hands shake uncontrollably
You have a project to turn in.
You can't hold the paper still.
Your hands are twitching out of your control
Take a deep breathe, it's due at the end of class
Mumbled curse words under your breath
You considered sparing your mental health to be in ruins for another day and just walking out of the suffocating room
Yet, you can't
It's against the law.
