It was your first year working at the summer camp called Camp Sunny Side. You couldn't lie, you were quite nervous. As with every new experience, you didn't know what to expect and dealing with kids could be a little challenging. However, the other counselors were very friendly and helped you a lot, especially one of them.
The tall blonde man, with a warm smile and kind heart was ready to answer any question you had, and even gave you a little tour. He was a bit clumsy and kept tripping while walking. Sometimes he even hit his head on a tree branch. It made you laugh, and whenever you tried to hide your lips with your hands so he wouldn't see you laughing, the blonde laughed as well, as his cheeks started to turn a light shade of pink.
You found out his name was Rosinante. And apparently, you'd be "rivais" during summer. He'd be the leader of one group, and you'd be the leader of another group during the competitions and activities.
He explained how it'd happen: for the next 10 weeks, the kids should be awake by 7:30 or 8 AM. Breakfast would happen from 8 AM until 9 AM; orientations, assignments and words of encouragement would happen after 9:15 AM. After that, each group would have their tasks or activities, such as crafts, hiking, sports; and then group activities until lunch around 12 PM and then another hour of free time.
The afternoon wouldn't be much different, with little "wars" and competitions between groups, games or swimming. After dinner at 7 PM, the camp would throw movie nights, little parties or campfire and hot cocoa. That was pretty much the schedule until bedtime after 10 PM.
Rosinante knew almost all the schedule by heart, and even knew most of the kids that spent the summer at the camp. He talked a lot about a boy called Law, who didn't even want to be there at first and avoided every group activity or game. The child avoided every interaction, but Rosinante annoyed him so much, the boy had no choice other than participating.
You both sat outside and talked for hours while Rosinante explained the dynamics, talked about which counselor was nice and which one wasn't that nice. Some rules, and which rules were usually broken by others. The conversation eventually became about why you both decided to work as camp counselors, and ended up talking about your personal lives. Not too much information, but mostly about what he usually did when he wasn't working at the summer camp.
It was getting dark, so you both headed back while Rosinante made sure you wouldn't trip on a branch... Then he ended up tripping on another branch. You widened your eyes and helped the man to get up, and he could've sworn that the moment your warm and soft hands touched his, the blonde's heart started beating faster.
He got up, feeling embarrassed.
— I think I'll have to keep an eye on you during summer. — you giggled. — So you don't get hurt.
The morning after, the kids started to arrive. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but you kept remembering Rosinant's tips, and whenever he wasn't busy, the blonde went to check in on you to make sure you were okay.
By the end of the afternoon, you were exhausted, but it was movie night! While the kids sat right in front of the hall, the counselors sat in the back. Rosinante even saved a seat for you right next to him, as was waiting for you with a huge smile.
— I've seen this movie so many times by now... — he whispered. — I think I can remember every line now.
— Do they show this movie every summer? — you whispered back, giggling.
He nodded and started to whisper the next few lines, making you laugh a bit louder, covering your mouth with your hands right after. The kids turned their heads to look at you, especially the boy he mentioned earlier, Law.
