It was a freezing December day. The snow fell quietly, and pedestrians walked bundled up in their coats and scarves. Despite the chilling weather, the town felt cozy, with glowing winter lights strung across trees and buildings.
A tall man wearing a brown trench coat and black turtleneck walked slowly. The man held his phone in his hand, shielding the screen from the snow. He was was looking for the address he had saved on his notes app.Soon, he spotted the destination: a small corner Cafe a few hundred feet away. The man's heart felt as if it would beat its way out of his chest.
He reluctantly made his way to the cafe, a black mask shielding his face.
It felt weird coming back to this town after so many years. He never remembered it being so beautiful. But maybe that was just because he never took the time to appreciate it. Never had the chance to.
Ever since he left eight years ago, he'd tried his hardest to block out any memories he had of this place. It took him nearly two months to get himself to come back. In the end, he knew it was the best thing to do.
He checked the address on his phone screen for the fifth time, making sure he was at the right place. Taking a deep breath, he entered the cafe. The door swung open smoothly with a gentle jingle to signal a customer's arrival.
By now he could feel his pulse in his ears as he approached the counter, where a shorter man with dark overgrown locks was taking orders. The man stood in the short line of people waiting to have their orders taken.
As his turn grew closer, he caught a glimpse of the other man's name tag and he knew he was in the right place. The blocky hangul letters read the name Min Yoongi.
It was him. This was it. This was what he'd spent so long trying to achieve, and even though he felt like crawling into a hole right now, he didn't think he'd ever be able to live properly if he gave up now.
Taking another deep breath, he walked up to the counter.
The black haired man, Min Yoongi, smiled kindly.
"Good morning," he greeted. "What can I get for you today?"
The tall man remained silent, the rushing of blood in his ears drowning out any sound. His tongue felt as dry as sand as he opened his mouth to speak.
"I... I don't..." he couldn't finish. The dark haired man's expression remained patient.
"Do you need a moment to decide?" he asked.
The tall man shook his head. He cleared his throat and took one last deep breath.
"My... my name is Kang Jungwon. Do... Do you know Kim Taehyung?" he asked, despite already knowing the answer to the question.
Min Yoongi's expression turned to a confused squint, before a flash of recognition crossed his face and his eyes suddenly darkened.
"You... You're... What are you doing here? And what do you want with Taehyung?"
Jungwon immediately raised his palms in defense.
"I... I promise I o-only want to speak to him," he stumbled over his words.
Yoongi turned his face downwards, his brows knit in anger and his voice low and warning.
"You leave our Taehyung alone, you hear me? I don't know what your goal is, or why you decided to show your face now, but if you even lay a finger-"
Jungwon cut him off, voice pleading.
"No, I promise, it's not like that. I want to apologize... I need to apologize. I said and did some unforgivable things, but I don't think I can go on living until I say I'm sorry. Please."
Yoongi looked back up at the taller man, his eyes full of distrust. He was silent for a moment before breathing a quiet growl of annoyance.
"Wait at that table over there," he said, pointing to a small two-seat table by the window. "I'll meet you there in ten minutes. "
