Chapter 1:

The sound of waves crashing against the boat stirred the boy awake, the morning wind flowing into the bottom boat's deck, hitting him like the waves outside. he groaned, flipping himself to face the boat's wall. "Chip!" A voice beckoned from above him. Identifying it as one of his co-crewmates he once again groaned, shoving his head into his pillow. "Chip get up!" the voice rocked the man's crib; causing him to lean upwards "Fine- fine god." He yawned out, stretching his arms out. "mornin Jay" he said. "Hey! so... you looking forward to today?" Jay, a small-Ish red-haired girl chirped, causing the boy to stare at her in confusion. She frowned. "It's Soulmate Eve! you know... the day where an entire generation gets a soulmate colour?" This confused the boy even more, sure; he knew what a soulmate was but, there's a day for that?

"Ugh...?" he spoke, getting up and tidying his ruggish look up, putting on his big brown boots. "of course." jay sighed. "Every 25 years soulmate eve comes around for the newest generation where they are picked a soulmate!! matching colours striped onto certain parts of hair of each person to signify that their soulmates; once found and accepted, the colours will fade!" Chip only took in half of this, nodding every now and then as if to show signs that he was listening. getting up he stretched once more. "Sounds like a lot of crap to me." he spoke, making his way up to the top as Jay followed him. As chip got to the top deck the sun glared at him, causing him to put his hand on top of his eyebrows, looking out into the blue waves.

"Good morning chip" One voice spoke, causing him to turn to see another crewmate of his, "mornin Gil". Gil, or well; Gillion Tidestrider flashed Chip with a smile, before continuing to do what he was doing. Chip smiled softly back, feeling a sort of warm feeling hit his chest. the same feeling that hit him that exact night. "𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦- 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴" 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘺, 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘸𝘦. 𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘥; "𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘮 𝘐?". 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘣𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥, 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘵, 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 "𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦" 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵, 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘦𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳-𝘏𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯; 𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘎𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯'𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘶𝘱, 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘩. He shook his head immediately away from the thought of this. It had been a while since that night, and it didn't matter anyways- He didn't have feelings for gillion, and he was sure as hell gillion didn't either.

"Are you aware of tonight's events?" Gillion asked, going up to Chip who rolled his eyes. "You believe in that soulmate shit Aswell?" Gillion only nodded. "It's traditional down where I'm from. Thats why people don't have guppies until their 40's since my people only look for their soulmates... and with how big this world is, that can be hard!" Chip watched as the man spoke about his tradition with honour, He always spoke with such power; It honestly impressed and intrigued chip, I guess that's what he liked most about gillion. "Sure, whatever you say Gil"

The day went by quick enough, not much happening as usual. as the sun set and night rose chip found himself staring at some jellyfish whilst standing by the top deck's edge. joining him by his side was Gillion, who was chatting to him about random facts about jellyfish.

"So, who do you think your soulmates going to be?" Gillion asked, chip looked at him with an unamused face. "I don't believe in soulmates Gil." "Why? are you afraid you won't like your soulmate?" Gil asked, unsure of chips thoughts. "Thats not it gil just," Chip paused, thinking.

"Having a strand of colour define who your partner is doesn't make any sense to me." Gil nodded to this, and silence did the rest of the talking until chip respoke. "If this uh...'soulmate' stuff is REALLY real, and I get a soulmate... the colour better be good." To this Gillion chuckled. "I hope it's someone I know.", chip to this raised an eyebrow; becoming suddenly smirky. "Oh? got a person in mind Ey?" Gillion froze with slight blush, muttering things. "well- no but- I don't know." Gillion was finally able to breathe out; resting his head on the boat's plank." well the sooner we get to bed the sooner we get our colours, see you then aight?" Chip spoke, yawning out; Gillion gave him a thumbs up before chip walked off, heading to bed.

Gillion watching the dark ocean waves hit the boat, rocking it left and right; it somewhat calmed him, something his brain wasn't doing. In all honesty, He was nervous about the soulmate ideal, He knew who he wanted it to be but... would he also be okay with it? hitting his head gillion sighed and headed off to bed.

Guess he'd find out tomorrow.
