The next morning, NamJoon woke with the sun in his eyes and a terrible stiffness in his neck. He pulled back the blanket that was covering him and sat up.
"Good morning," YoonGi said from over in the kitchen.
"Ahh, morning," NamJoon replied. His hair was stuck up in weird places and he couldn't get it to smooth down by running his fingers through it.
A sudden whirring made NamJoon jerk his neck and, wincing at the pain, he realized YoonGi had found his apology.
"Look, YoonGi," NamJoon began, making his way over to the counter across from him and sitting on the stool.
"Don't. I should apologize. I overreacted." YoonGi poured the batter he had mixed onto an already heated grill. "I... I talked to my mom again the other day."
NamJoon's head snapped up, looking intently at his friend. He knew his relations with his parents were strained. His own relationship wasn't always the best, but not like for YoonGi.
YoonGi turned back to face NamJoon, his eyes a little shiny. "My dad wants me to come home. Same arguments as last time. And the time before. I was in a bit of a bad place this past week, you know. The mixer breaking felt like a sign or a symbol or some shit."
NamJoon's brows furrowed in concern, but he remained silent, listening.
"The thing is, I think maybe I should."
NamJoon's blood ran cold, his stomach dropping faster than the broken blender. Was YoonGi going to give up on his dream? He could feel the beginnings of tears stinging his eyes. He reached his hand out and covered YoonGi's with his own. YoonGi felt the warmth immediately and something in his stomach flipped happily, but when he continued the sadness was still in his voice.
"We aren't getting anywhere, Joon. We keep working hard, running non stop, and still getting nowhere. I can't take failure after failure like this. If the company won't let me in the studio, there's no point in me being here, there's nothing for-"
"Ahhh is that breakfast I smell?" JungKook entered the kitchen, his dark hair up on end, his sleeping clothes thoroughly wrinkled, stretching.
YoonGi turned, pulling his hand from NamJoon's and resuming his cooking.
"I'll go wake the others," NamJoon said as JungKook started setting the table.
