Welcome to Red Hills

Scene 1:

Two days have passed, since JJ and Zoey signed into a new school: Red Hills Secondary. They also started renting an apartment, within a walkable distance from the school. They've also made some important purchases, such as food, clothes, computers and phones. Right now, it's Monday morning. They're already wearing their new red uniforms, on their way to the campus.

JJ: This is the one thing I never liked about Australia. Most schools here force you to wear these ugly uniforms. What happened to freedom?

Zoey: Chill out, J. It's just clothing. You don't see me bitching about not wearing dark clothes, and eyeliner anymore.

JJ: Well, of course. You look even better without those things.

Zoey: ... Thank you.

JJ: I'm just so fucking nervous. Do you think we should do an aussie accent, to fit in? 'Cause I can't pull it off.

Zoey: For God's sake. No , you don't need an aussie accent. Your normal accent will make you exotic.

JJ: What if I sound so exotic, that I just look weird?

Zoey: Chill, okay? You should have kept microdosing. I don't know why you didn't want to keep taking them.

JJ: Because I don't wanna get addicted to drugs, okay?

Zoey: (laughs) You're so dramatic.

JJ: ... Do you think anyone will bully us, for being foreigners?

Zoey: No, but please let them try. I'd love to kick some aussie ass.

JJ: I'm serious!

Zoey: And I'm serious too. If they try, they're fucked... Besides, I don't think it'll happen. I heard there's more foreigners there. And one of them is an American girl.

[They finally get to Red Hills Secondary, and it looks even better than in the pictures they saw. A big campus, with lots of green areas, clean-looking buildings with shiny windows, floors and walls in perfect condition. And most importantly, a sea of teenagers wearing red]

JJ: Wow.

Zoey: Looks better than Goodwolf High, doesn't it?

JJ: Looks better than Goodwolf and Greenwater combined.

Zoey: Agree. So what do you say, Dempsey? Are we going in?

JJ: We have to. (sigh) Here we go. A new school.

[They enter the school, and start walking around]

JJ: (whispers to Zoey) Do you think they know we're American?

Zoey: (whispers back) No, but keep whispering like that, and they'll know you're weird.

[A teacher walks up to them]

Teacher: Hi. Zoey and Jeremiah, right? I read your files.

Zoey: Yes, that's us.

JJ: And you can just call me JJ. If you want (nervous laughter).

Teacher: Alright, then. Nice to meet you, Zoey and JJ, and welcome to Red Hills. I'm Mrs. King, and I'm happy to show you two around. And then we can go straight to the classroom, since the first class you're having is with me.

Zoey: That would be great.

Teacher: Good, come with me.

[The teacher walks them through the school, showing them the most important locations. And once they're done, the bell rings. It's time to go to class]
