When Thrawn walked out of the refresher, he could hear Ziinuuvitas talking on the other room, in the middle of a call with some imperial officer of the Chimaera.
He waited for the call to end, stepping into the office area and watching her work. He had a fresh set of the white imperial uniform, and he had combed his hair as usual but decided to keep it damp not to waste more of their time.
We watched as she glanced at him with those strange eyes of hers that seemed to have a familiar glow that was somehow hidden, but the girl quickly brought her eyes back to the screen.
"There's a problem with seven Q7 tractor beam projectors of the Raptor sir. Admiral Lin contacted Commodore Faro regarding the issue, but apparently the generators will need to be replaced and Phylon Transport says they can't place the order until they are done with Director Krennic's demands." She tells him without looking.
Thrawn takes the datapad on the desk and scrolls to the schedule that she had already finished preparing for the day.
"Have you contacted them yourself?" He asked her.
"I did after the Commodore complained about their lack of respect." Ziinuuvitas said after a deep exhale.
"And what did Phylon Transport's representative say?" he asked her while still casually scrolling through the datapad.
"He said a awful lot of words for someone who had nothing to tell. But in the end all that matters is that I got the new generators and within two days the Raptor will have them installed and everything will be fully operational. There's no need for you to bother yourself with this matter sir."
She looked annoyed however, a sharp change from the Senior Captain he had left moments before when he went for his shower.
"How did you manage to get them? I hope you'll not tell me you decided to steal them from the good Director..." He raised an eyebrow.
"It crossed my mind..." She chuckled dryly. "He can't be allowed to go on like this. But no. I uhm... When you were away, I... I contacted Wayland Enterprises regarding a possible contract for supplying your Fleet." She stammered.
"You signed a contract without my permission?"
"Not exactly... I didn't sign it. Not yet. The thing is, I found some uhm... Irregular activity, concerning Phylon Transport. They are smuggling old parts to the rebels, I even found a shipment listing with the name of Saw Gerrera. So I thought we should eventually expose it but..."
"But?"
"I wanted us to have the upper hand. So I started a bilateral agreement with Wayland Enterprises. They are a smaller company, but I believe their potential to be what we need for the Fleet. And we would be the first ones to place a trust stamp on them." She explains. "Which means, once both parts are being mutually benefited, we can expose Phylon Transport and not only we extinguish one source for the rebels, we also leave Director Krennic without his friends. We win at his own game."
He was truly impressed with her now. This was cunning scheming, and she obviously had way more talent for politics than himself. It was probably because of all the people she was in contact with- Thrawn knew she learned fast, so she probably picked those things up from others and allied them now.
That was his own weakness - he had limits to the amount of political plays he could learn.
"And the generators?"
"Because the plan was already in motion, they have spare parts waiting in storage for the Chimaera. Since the Raptor is also a ISD-I, it uses the same generators for the Q7 tractor beam projectors. We can now test the quality of their equipment, and if it stands up to the expectations, which I believe it will, then we can close the deal. If you approve it of course."
