A crimson red covered the sky. It was like a blood curtain was thrown over the world. The streets lay empty except for litter and bugs. Everything looked like New York but with a dark filter thrown onto it. The city's population seemed unusually vacant and deserted. Jack's hands began to shake as he knew he was in some deep shit. Never before had he believed magic was real... until today. Where a criminal he randomly met, created a portal to a completely unknown world.
The first thing he did was check his body to make sure there were no serious injuries. No pain could be felt in his body which was a good sign and they were little to no bruises. He looked around for the girl he jumped in with, but she couldn't be found. More worry weighed on his mind as he wondered if she was attacked when they went through the portal. If he'd been knocked out from the impact, who knows how long he had been out for.
He checked his pockets and breathed a sigh of relief as he found his phone still in his possession. The phone had still about fifty percent in its battery. He checked the signal, only to find he had no cell service where he was.
Jack: "Great... day couldn't get any fucking better!"
A strange rustle was heard from a group of trash bags near the wall of the alley. Jack knew it was against his better judgment to look, but he'd already done a bunch of questionable things already. The closer he got to the trash, the more he could make out a figure in the mess. Maybe it was the girl, or something worse. The figure in the trash seemed to be a female, as she had a feminine body. She looked very strange, as she didn't have normal skin. Her body was covered in light gray fur with black furry ears.
The strange creature didn't seem to be conscious and mumbling in her sleep. He decided to step a little closer. A chill ran through his spine as he assumed she was a werewolf of some kind. She must have been an inhabitant of the world he now found himself in. Her claws looked quite sharp and her teeth were showing in her mouth. The mumbling picked up in pace, meaning she was on the verge of waking up. Jack took the opportunity to leave the alley and hopefully find help.
The strange creature's eyes slowly opened. Her head rose out of the trash to find herself alone. She removed herself from the garbage and checked the alley. She found no evidence of anything out of place but something still made her feel off. A phone was removed from her pocket, revealing she was the girl from earlier. Before she unlocked her phone she could smell something... out of place. The scent smelled reminded her of the idiot she had run into at the store. That same guy followed her into the alley.
Then the situation hit her. He did have the balls to follow her through the portal for the same reason she did, which was to escape the cops. She began to panic as she realized she unintentionally brought a human into the most dangerous realm of all, and on one of the worst days.
She quickly grabbed the satchel that contained the magical book from the trash and picked up the human's scent. The smell was strong enough that she knew he hadn't run far. She was at least glad that he didn't smell trash or b.o. The streets were quiet and empty making it a lot easier to find one scent rather than isolating it from many. She determined the direction he took and started tracking.
Meanwhile, Jack was severely lost. Each building looked the same but different at the same time. It only had been a few minutes, but it had felt like an hour. He kept hoping that he would turn a corner and magically bump into the girl with the strange book. The creature from before probably tried to kill the girl but she appeared to knock it unconscious. However, she managed to do it.
