finney watched the two interact for practically the whole night. he hated it. it wasn't fair. but, it made sense, he supposes. vance was some 'mysterious' criminal. finney was just a boring knight — of course he would choose vance over finney. he was pissed at vance. he showed up out of nowhere and just — swept the other boy off his feet. he sighed. he couldn't stare them for a second longer. he laid down on the bed, rolling to turn away for the other two.

meanwhile, neither of the other boys took notice of finney, as they were too caught up in their own conversation. "i'm really sorry, i didn't think he would react like that." bruce said. vance shrugged. "its whatever. he's always been so— uptight." vance clenched his fists. bruce put one hand on his shoulder. "you guys just have.. different views on things, i'm sure." bruce put his hand on top of vance's on the railing. vance looked at him and bruce offered a smile. vance gave a small smile back.

"i should probably go soon." vance murmured. "must you?" bruce frowned. "can you just stay a little longer?" vance felt like he physically couldn't say no to the look on bruce's face, but him showing up was already risky. "i promise i'll be back tomorrow, alright? but, maybe meet me in the garden, yeah? climbing up to this room is kinda hard—" vance said sheepishly. bruce chuckled. "i can see why- i'll try my best to do so." vance smiled. "thank you." he placed a kiss to bruce's cheek, causing bruce to turn an obvious red. "i'll see you tomorrow night, then." he said, before making his way down the castle again.

bruce watched him climb down before going back into the room. he closed the balcony doors, and finney rolled over to face him. bruce sat down on the bed sighing contently. "dreamy, isn't he?" he said with a smile. finney rolled his eyes and scoffed. "suuure." bruce huffed. "alright, so we have different tastes—" he rolled his eyes. "but he's just so different— not like anyone i've ever met." bruce laid down. "so i've heard." finney said. he could be different if that's what bruce wanted. "anyways," bruce spoke up. "we should get some sleep, yeah?" finney nodded in reply.

the next day, finney couldnt find bruce. they'd said their goodbyes in the morning, but finney hadn't seen him since then. although bruce was in easily the first place most people would guess — the library. he figured there was no harm in him doing a little digging through vance's past. maybe he could figure out why the boys hated eachother. he would do some digging on finney later, of course, but he was gonna have to pull a lot more strings to get that information.

he hadn't been very successful, though. he'd looked through the news paper articles, but all there was only recent things — new robberies, jails he escaped from, etc. nothing that he needed to know, though. well, maybe he should've looked a little closer. then maybe he would've noticed the small details he missed. but, he didn't. he jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. he turned around, but was he grateful when it was just finney. he let out a small squeak. "shit! you scared the shit out of me, finney—" finney gave an apologetic smile. "i'm sorry- didn't mean to startle you." bruce waved his hand dismissively. "don't worry about it, i should've been paying more attention."

"what are you looking at?" finney asked. bruce looked at what he was reading, then back to finney. "oh. nothing. it's not important." he set it down on the table. "did you need something?" finney shook his head. "nopeee, just looking for you." he smiled. bruce gave a small smile back. "well, you found me." finney nodded. "you kinda disappeared this morning.." finney couldnt lie, he had missed the other as they had practically not left eachothers sides over the past week.

bruce shrugged. "yeah, sorry. i had some stuff i needed to find out." he shrugged. finney tried to peak over bruce's shoulder at what he was reading, but he couldn't quite make out the words. although, he could see it was something about vance. of course it was about vance. "we should get going." bruce spoke up. "you know, there is a crazy amount, not-so-secret criminal groups." bruce took finney's hand in his own, leading him out of the library. he watched their hands intently, a small growing on his face — as well as a blush.

"y-yeah, actually, i did know." finney chuckled awkwardly. "we learned about several of them at the academy." bruce nodded. "ah- that makes sense." finney nodded. silence fell over them and bruce let his mind wander. "why could they hate eachother so much? he wanted to be back in the library finding out more information about vance — and finney. but instead he was on his way to the garden.

finney took notice of how uninterested the other seemed and, he couldn't lie, it hurt. he could tell that he was thinking about vance. finney wasn't sure why he was trying. maybe he needed to be more like vance. maybe then bruce would pay attention to him.
