Josh had talked to mom, she was on board. Once Josh had told her we wanted to go back to Pennhurst she was beyond the moon. Mom had always spoken so highly of the place.
It took us 4 and a half ours to get there from Rhode Island. The whole way there my mother talked of how much she loved the place, telling me and Seth about how she met dad there, he was the doctor who hired her and the doctor who told her they had to close. She had started working there when my grandmother had started working there in 1970. Then 14 years later my mother started working there. Two years later, they closed Pennhurst but it didn't fully close until 1990. Dad was 24 when he had met mom, they didn't fully get together until 1990, and married in 1991. Then 3 years later my brother josh was born, and 5 years after that I was born.
Once we arrived we had spent two hours exploring on our own, with my mom telling us stories of times of happiness pain and sorrow, as well just plain memories of the past.
"Mom, was it as bad as they said it was?" I asked genuinely not believing the cruel rumors.
"I only try to remember the good parts of working here" She said pausing. A dark look came upon her face.
" Skippy was the one bad thing that still haunts me. He will always haunt me......
