He’d been through this one before. So many damn times throughout the years that by now, it was just commonplace to relive this nightmare every time he closed his eyes.

Jason struggled against the leather bindings that kept him glued to the examination table. The blinding light above him hurt his eyes, making it hard for him to clearly observe his surroundings. Then again, it wasn’t like he really wanted to even if he could.

He could tell that he was in some kind of laboratory. Not because of sterile smell that attacked his nostrils, but rather due to the sickening feeling of déjà vu that hardly seemed keen on leaving him alone, instead filling every fibre of his being with utter terror.

He could hear footsteps steadily approaching as he saw some shadowy figure come to life out of the corner of his eye. He wasn’t sure as to why, but every single time he had this nightmare, his terror seemed to shoot through the roof the very second the shadowy being came into view.

The being had its back turned to Jason, but Jason could tell that it was up to something. He knew by having the events of this nightmare permanently engraved into his mind, always seeming to feel more like a hazy memory rather than some fucky psychedelic thing.

Just then the shadowy being turned around, a syringe held between its colourless fingers. Seeing the red liquid present within the syringe made Jason’s adrenaline shoot through his veins as he struggled even harder against the bindings.

Yet no matter how hard or for how long he struggled, he never once managed to get free.

The doctor-like being used its free hand to pin Jason’s head down, turning it to the side to expose his neck. Jason let out a cry, thrashing and shaking.

Nothing he did seemed to deter the doctor as they then stabbed Jason’s neck with the syringe, injecting the liquid within it. A burning pain surged through Jason’s blood as the doctor then forcefully tore the syringe out of his neck.

Jason let out a small whimper, feeling his body go numb with pain. The doctor then leaned over him just like they had done so many times before, their eyes a dark, blood-red colour as a wide, pure-white fang-filled smile spread across the bottom half of their otherwise featureless face.

Then, everything burst into flames.

The rain was thundering down hard, harshly blinding the view through the windscreen as the Jeep drove along the freeway.

The sounds of some sort of rock song were softly playing through the speakers, filling the otherwise silent air as it also gave Leon’s mind something to do as he focused on getting to his destination as safely as he could.

The rookie cop hummed quietly to himself, drumming his fingers on the rim of his steering wheel. Hardly anything had happened during the past few hours of the drive, which he was thankful for. The drive across the country had been long enough without any more delays.

They were already weeks late by now—they didn’t need to be any later.

The road ahead of him was difficult to observe, since the only light available came from the poorly maintained streetlamps sparsely lining the sides of the freeway, and his vehicle’s own headlights.

Leon’s bored, grey-blue eyes glanced around, soon drifting over to the male in the vehicle with him present in the passenger seat, who was fast asleep.
