I look around at my surroundings and see a child in the ball pit next to me, smiling with crooked teeth. I smiled back, and was internally screaming about how I was NOT WHERE I WAS 10 SECONDS AGO?!
I got out of the ball pit and looked around. "Uhm. excuse me? ma'am" a broad, smooth, British accent flooded my ears. it sent chills down my spine. I gulped and turned around, only to be met with a man at about 6'5, with greasy brown hair, a long nose, and stubble. "y-yes?"
"you seem... rather lost to be in the children's play area..."
"oh! Uhm- I was just- looking around when some kid pushed me into the ball pit... sorry-"
"No need to apologize, doll. you're just fine."
doll.
that name made me melt.
"you look a little... young to have a child here.."
"I'm only 22...I uh.. don't have a kid."
"oh... well. why are you here?"
"ima be honest, I got no clue."
he looked at me with a strange face. "okay..." he dragged out. I laughed nervously. "look kid, I don't know why you're here but if you're lollygagging around, then you might as well get a job here. if not, then get out." I thought for a minute. a job... that could help... shit I need a place to stay... "I mean.. I'll take a job offer,"
he smirked.
"right, this way."
creepy much? he led me down a long dimmed hallway and to a door that was labeled, "W.A." which I had assumed to be his initials. he opened the door and walked in, not bothering to let me go first. real gentleman right here. I rolled my eyes, closed the door behind me, and sat in a fancy leather seat in front of his wooden desk.
"so, I'll just ask you a few questions, then I'll talk with the manager about letting you work here or not."
he grabbed a sheet of paper and a clipboard and clipped them onto the board.
"what's your name?"
"..y/n l/n"
"age?... well, 22 I guess."
he jotted down everything we both said.
after a series of excruciatingly intense questions, he finally paused. "all right then" he sighed. "I guess that's all." he started to stand. "wait-! I uh. I have a question..." he looked down at me. "yes?"
"Is there... is there anyone that I could.. stay with?"
"do you not have a home?"
"Not exactly.."
he sat back down to listen to a story he expected me to tell.
"well- i-i mean I had a place to stay but my mom kinda... kicked me out."
he chuckled. "I know where you come from kid."
I looked up. "Really?"
"Sure do. my mother kicked me out when she realized that my dream was different than what she had envisioned for me."
"I'm so sorry.."
"no no no, I should be sorry for you. having to live on your own.." his face looked as if he was thinking long and hard about something. a few seconds later of pure silence, he responds to himself with this.
he shrugged. "well.. for the time being, I guess Iou can stay at my house.. but you'll have to sleep on the couch." I nodded. "sounds fine to me."
we heard a knock on the door. "shit... come here-" he grabbed my wrist and shoved me behind his desk and pulled his chair up. "come in!" he shouted. I heard the door open. "will, its almost closing time. also, if you haven't noticed, we are very understaffed. so can you please try to get more people hired?" the voice pleaded. "yes I know henry, I'm trying my best..." he groaned. "thank you William are you sure you're okay with closing tonight?"
"yes. now go get rest.."
"okay theOkaynight will."
"night."
the door closed. he pulled his chair back. "I'm sorry." I stood silent for a moment. I felt so small compared to him. "it's fine. so when can we go home?" I asked "now I guess. I have to close first." "alright Alright smiled and he helped me out from under his desk. okay... maybe he is a little kind...
