Chapter 1

"Where were you last night?" Was the first thing my mum asked me as I entered the living room the next morning. "You went out for your Chinese and didn't come back. I came to check on you at one in the morning and you weren't in your room. I figured I'd give you until morning to come back. I know what you're like and I know what happens when I try to call you when you're out."

I shrugged, slouching down on the sofa that my mum wasn't occupying. "Oh, you know... out."

She raised her eyebrow at me, clearly disbelieving the reason I had given her. "Out where exactly?"

"You know... places..." I trailed off. I didn't want to tell her where exactly I had been. I knew for a fact that she wouldn't be impressed... in fact; I didn't even want to think about how she would react. She would be so angry.

"Where are these said places?" She enquired further. She wanted to get to the bottom of this and there was no way I could get out of the situation. I had to think of a lie as fast as I could.

I faked a dramatic sigh, dropping my shoulders as I looked down at the floor. "Ok, you got me. I was at Jenna's watching movies, I took the Chinese over to her house and I guess I kinda fell asleep without realising the time. So I tried to get back in without you noticing."

"You should have just said you were at Jenna's and I wouldn't have had a problem. It's when you hang out with the... bad... people like Parker Adams that I have a problem. Not that I expect you to hang out with him anyway. He's bad news and I want you to stay away from him. Do not go anyway near him."

Feigning a laugh, I nodded my head in agreement. "Ha, sure. Don't worry, I won't go near him."

How could I have been so stupid? I knew how much my mum hated him. I knew my dad hated him. I was practically forbidden from seeing him at all costs; there was no way around it. It was a huge no. Our families hates each other, there was no way around it. We didn't go near each other no matter what the situation was.

All I could think about was what if my mum found out about last night... I'd be dead. She'd hate me. I'd have lost all the trust and respect that I'd gained from her. She would be so disappointed in me; I didn't even want to think about it. It scared me way too much.

"So what do you have planned for today?" My mum asked me, picking up her magazine that she was previously reading before I'd entered the room. She looked like she was dressed for a lazy day; her hair was tied up and she was still in her pyjamas with bed socks on.

"I was thinking about seeing if Jenna wanted to go out for lunch." I answered. This was slightly true... I was just planning on going to see Parker first. That was if I managed to gain enough confidence to do so.

Mum nodded whilst pushing her reading glasses further up her nose. "That's a good idea. There's some money on the counter in the kitchen, just grab that and go have a good time."

"Thank you," I grinned, jumping up from the sofa and reaching over to hug mum. "I'm off to get ready now so that I'm not too late."

"No problem, sweetie. Just make sure you behave and don't get into any trouble. Also be back by seven, you have school tomorrow."

"I won't!" I called back as I made my way up to my room. On the way up I sent Jenna a text asking if she wanted to meet for lunch. I knew that she wouldn't say no, she was always up for hanging out.

We agreed to meet at the small café that was closer to my house than it was to Jenna's which meant that I had a little more time left before I had to leave.
