Three years before Team RWBY were formed.
The streets of downtown Vale were eerily quiet, broken only by the sound of footsteps and hushed voices. It was raining lightly.
A Faunus child was huddled in an alleyway, whimpering as a group of men laughed and kicked at the defenseless child. The child's face was scarred and bruised, their tail limp and bloodied from being repeatedly kicked and stepped on. They huddled against the wall to protect themselves. Their eyes were closed as they whimpered, having giving up to beg the humans to stop tormenting them and now silently praying that the nightmare would end.
The men stopped as a loud thud was heard echoing through the alleyway. Then an unearthly scream was heard from the darkness.
The child didn't dare open their eyes out of fear as he heard the men scream and gunshots rang out and then they felt something splash against their face.
Then the alleyway went eerily silent save for the rain. After a few moments before the child slowly opened his eyes in confusion and was filled with horror at what he saw.
Blood was splattered on the walls like paint, dripping down like rain before washing away towards the street. The men's weapons were scattered on the ground, one gun's barrel was still smoking and Dust rounds laid on the ground. The men, however, were nowhere to be seen.
Shadows passed on the ground, drawing the child's attention upwards. He choked on a scream as terror filled his eyes.
The men were hanging from the fire escapes above; their chests had been pierced through, leaving them to bleed as they dangled like ragdolls, their eyes open wide in fear as their tears mixed with the blood and rain.
The sight was too much for the child to handle as they fell down and lost consciousness. Just as they closed their eyes, someone walked up to them and dropped a large cloth over them to protect them from the rain.
The person was not seen by the naked eye but their silhouette was visible due to the raindrops. They turned their head as they heard people approaching from the street. The person quickly jumped up and landed on the fire escape above and then jumped onto the rooftops. The figure looked back down to see people arrive in the alley and see the carnage above them before they saw the Faunus child under the cover.
The figure turned away seeing that the child wasn't attacked by these people. The child will be alright now.
Suddenly the figure's gauntlet began to beep. They walked under a water tower and deactivated their cloaking suit and pressed a few buttons on their left arm. A small hologram of a ship appeared in front of their face as they heard a transmission in a series of growls and clicks as the ship was shown steering off course and to then fly towards a planet with a broken moon.
Just then a faint sonic boom was heard from above. The figure looked upwards and saw the ship entering the atmosphere at rapid speeds. They watched the ship fly over the sea and disappear out of view on the island.
The figure growled and then disappeared from view but their silhouette jumped from the roof and landed on the next.
____
(Ruby's point of view)
I was in the middle of getting dressed when I heard Bullheads flying over my house. It was odd. Bullheads don't fly this far inland on Patch. I quickly threw on my cloak and walked over to the window. Just as I threw it open, I saw them fading into the distance over the mountains but I did get a good look at them though.
