(Ruby's Point of View)

Run.

Get away.

If you want to get out alive, go, run for your life.

Those were the words going through my head. It felt so unlike me. I never ran from a fight, but I was so scared that I didn't stay and fight. I just ran.

"Hurry up!"

"I'm trying!"

I lost track of everyone but Michelle. I held her hand as tight as I could as while we ran. She was less athletic than me but I kept running as fast as I could. I thought of using my Semblance, but I never used it carrying another person and I had no idea what affect it could have on Michelle. (1) It was cruel to force her to keep up with me but maybe I could keep her alive this way.

"Jessie!" I called out to the darkness, looking around frantically. We all had run in the same direction, but I remembered that we weren't close enough to see each other.

I heard Jessie let out an incoherent squawk up ahead of us and unearthly screeches behind us. The scary thing was that was all the noise they made. There were no footsteps as they ran, no claw scratching the bark of trees when they climbed. They blended in the shadows that created them.

My vision dimmed until I saw the path in front of me. All I heard was my heartbeat, Michelle and I's ragged breathing. My natural speed was lagging because of her, and she was getting tired. I hope against all odds that she would keep up with the help of adrenaline and survive.

Protect her. I have to protect her.

Don't let go. She'll make it, I said to myself. It didn't matter if we were falling behind. She will make it if I hold on. I'll drag her if I have to.

A scream broke through the air before being abruptly silenced. At the corner of my vision, I saw flashlights dropping to the ground and silhouettes of people being pulled into the darkness. I heard Jessie shriek faintly and then I saw two shapes running towards me and Michelle.

Pulling out Crescent Rose, I told Michelle, "Get down!"  I hefted my scythe back as the creatures came closer and closer.

3. . . 2. . . 1. . . Now!

I pulled the trigger and the blade cut the two creatures in half as I spin away from them and made sure that I stood in front of Michelle as they fell to the ground in four pieces. We looked down at the creatures in both horror and wonder.

They didn't have white boney armor or spikes like the Grimm. Their heads were elongated and smooth.  They had no eyes, a pair of tube-like spines on their back and a skeletal tail with a blade like stinger at the end.

"What are they?" Michelle asked in a whisper. "I don't know," I replied back. They looked like. . . like demons. Then I heard something sizzling. Confused, I glance at Crescent Rose and to my horror, the blade was dissolving.

"No!" I gasped. "Crescent Rose!" I felt tears sting my eyes. My baby! I worked so hard to create her. How? How is this happening? I glanced down and saw the demons' yellow blood was steaming and melting everything it touched. Acid? For blood?! What the hell?! I had no choice but to drop Crescent Rose. "Come on. We got to go!" I said to Michelle.

We were near the back of the pack. If we didn't catch up, we'd be in a position where the Demons could pick us off.

Don't let go.

"What are they?!"

Run.

"Just run!"

If you want to get out alive, run.
