Iris walked through the thick shrubbery with a "Nancy Drew" book in hand. All this dirt made her nauseous, but she really needed to be alone right now. She continued deeper into the forest, but with every step she grew more and more unsettled. The trees were blocking a lot of sunlight from coming in, making everything seem more eerie. To add on to the creepiness, there were weird insect sounds that Iris has never heard before coming from all directions. Iris finally found a somewhat okay log, in an area where the leaves aren't blocking too much light, to sit and read. When she opened up the book she was instantly taken away into her fictional world she loved so much, that she almost forgot about the uncanny woodland. ...Almost. Iris sat there in her fictional word feeling better the deeper she fell into the mystery of the story. Suddenly, she felt a shudder go down her spine, and her skin tingled. She felt as if she were being watched by someone. She tried to shrug the feeling off, but it never went away. She put her book down and stood up looking around.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" Iris called out into the eeriness. "I- I have my parents on speed dial, a-and you don't want to mess with them! They own a thriving business in Malibu, s- so they can, and will sue you!"

There was silence, and then rustling in the trees somewhere above her. Iris held up her phone in front of her trying to look threatening. She trembled in her boots as she heard the rustling get closer, and backed into a tree. Suddenly the rustling stopped and an upside down girl appeared in front of her.

"Hullo!" The upturned girl beamed.

"GAH!" Iris yelled and tried to slap the girl with her phone, but the girl had fast reflexes and quickly moved her head, still grinning. "Why were you watching me in the woods?! More importantly, why are you hanging from a tree branch!?" Iris complained.

The girl giggled and jumped down from the branch landing right in front of Iris.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. It's just that we don't get many visitors here in Forks, so when I saw that a new person was coming to town, I got excited!" The lively girl bubbled. Then the girl frowned slightly, and poked her head uncomfortably close to Iris's, making her blush a little bit. Iris noticed that this girl had very long, black, hair, and dark eyes, with freckles that stood out against her unnaturally pale skin.

"Why did you come to Forks? Do you have family here?" The girl questioned, inspecting Iris.

"You have no right to ask me a question like that when you barely answered mine." Iris scoffed. "Besides, you're a stranger and I'm not supposed to talk to people I don't know."

The girl smiled and backed up, extending her hand.

"Right, Sorry! My name is Marceline, but you can call me Marcy!" Marcy grinned.

"Pleasure." Iris said unenthusiastically, rejecting the hand shake and walking back towards the log. "Well it's been... interesting, but I'm leaving now."

"Wait, you didn't tell me your name." Marcy said as Iris grabbed her book and started off in the direction towards her aunt's place.

"I wasn't planning on it." Iris grumbled and tried walking away.

After a moment, Marcy came skipping up beside Iris.

"But isn't that how you become friends with someone?" Marcy questioned. "Sorry, I'm kind of new to this whole 'friends' thing."

"We're not friends." Iris huffed, speeding up to try and get away from the annoying chatterbox.

Marcy skipped a little faster to keep up, and rambled on.

"I've never really had friends before. Except for my little sister, Kelly, but she doesn't count. Heh, To think that I've lived in this small town my whole life, and I still have trouble making friends." Marcy babbled.

"Shocker." Iris said sarcastically.

Apparently Marcy didn't hear that comment because she just continued on, still skipping beside her.

"You know, you would like my little sister. She's only four, but she can be really bratty. Kind of like you!"

Iris suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned to Marcy fuming.

"Okay, you know what, this has been great, but I'm tired, I need to get back before curfew, and I just had pretty much the worst day of my life. So it would mean so much to me if you could just leave me alone!" She snapped, and then stormed off.

"Wait! I still don't know your name!" She heard Marcy call in the distance, as she angrily sulked all the way back to the cottage.
