put on my pointe shoes.
tie the ribbons too tight.
my toes are cramped.
these shoes are too small.
stand up.
it cuts into my heel.
i can't feel my feet.
rise.
lower.
releve.
pirouette.
my foot and leg go opposite directions.
there's a snap.
i'm falling.
i don't cry over my broken ankle.
stand up and repeat on the opposite side.
rise.
i don't do it for show.
lower.
i don't do it for practice.
releve.
i do it for punishment.
pirouette.
my foot and leg go opposite directions.
fall to my knees.
bruised knees.
broken ankles.
no crying.
i'm just trying to match my emotional pain.
and it's not enough.
stand on broken ankles.
rise.
lower.
releve.
pirouette.
now this is it.
fire.
sparks.
all flying up my legs to devour.
falling.
standing.
rise. lower. pirouette.
single.
double.
i fall out of my triple and lie on the floor.
broken ankles aren't enough.
