The rain was heavy enough to blind but I kept running.

Screams and pleads for mercy echoed throughout the city and could be heard through the storm. What was even clearer through the weather and my pounding head were the merciless gunshots that followed.

They are going to find you and they are going to kill you. They will find you and then kill you.

It was the only thing rambling in my head to keep me going. Frankly, I didn't want to die. The adrenaline-fueled drive to avoid it was unknown to me, yet it was almost intoxicating. I craved it and I never wanted it to end so long as it got me out of the grasp of the Shadows.

Run Lily, go! Now! Don't look back!

His echo of a voice was one to provoke my own thoughts to keep moving. I wondered where Ghost was. And Soap...what had happened to him? I had no way to communicate and no way to find my way around either. Where were they meeting? Did I even bother to look? Did I just focus on getting out of the death-ridden city?

Do I just turn myself in?

They wanted me. I had information they needed but I never knew was so important—not until recently anyways. If I turned myself in, I doubted they would let me live once they got what they needed and, being a civilian with no training, I knew it wouldn't take long. My mind wasn't strong enough.

    Find him.

I wanted one person only through this entire fiasco and that was the tall, broad, and solid soldier who'd done nothing but protected me from the beginning. I trusted him...even though I doubted he would think twice about me.

Hearing the low barks of Shadows, I stopped at the corner of an alley. I peeked around the corner to spot four Shadows in a semi-circle at an intersection. They were all fully strapped, with rifles and lights on to spot then kill on sight. A shudder escaped my spine, and I leaned back into the black alley, silently panicking.

My panic worsened when I moved my hand away from my right thigh and brought it up to examine. Thick and slimy blood clung to my hand, mixing with the rain, and dripping down to the brick road below. I was standing in a puddle and it was quick to become one of mostly blood. I felt my head spin with fright as I realized how much I was losing.

    You're going to die here.

I tried to ignore my intrusive thought process; it was not helpful in the slightest. However, a second glance at the cluster of soldiers ahead made me believe it. I was never going to get past them. They had armor and fully automatic weapons with lots of ammo to use. Their gear was way more powerful than what I had...which was nothing.

My eyes caught sight of an open doorway leading into a recently ransacked building directly across. A little hope spread through me imagining that the soldiers ahead had already gone through it and wouldn't return to check it. I could lay low or find things to survive until I found Soap or Ghost.

The streetlight above was flickering in the weather, not very updated for the time it stood in. When it was lit, it revealed everything in the street down to the cracks in the brick road. However, once out the soldiers couldn't spot anything; it was even difficult for me to continue to see the open doorway.

You can make that. Time the light.

It popped on, highlighting the rain blasting down around the fluorescent bulb. My eyes darted to the men beginning to plan their next search pattern. They were unaware of my presence...for now.

The light flickered again, its brightness dwindling until it was fully out. My good leg braced as I pushed off the wall; my run for it was slowed down with my aching wound. I let out a breath of exasperation and stress as I reached the center of the road.

    Almost there, push.

It was right then that the streetlight above unexpectedly flashed back to life, exposing every inch of me to the Shadow soldiers.

- AUTHORS NOTE 11.16.2022 -

Hello everyone! It's a short beginning but we have loads of story ahead of us and I'm sooo excited. For those new to my writing and the Call of Duty fanfiction, welcome, but to those who've been around for bit...can you believe this is my 14th story on here?! So much growth and time has gone on :)

I am looking forward to this book especially...the MW series has always had my heart and so you can bet the rebooted ones have too. I never did anything with the 2019 MW but when this one came out everything felt right to do something for y'all! As a heads up, this will follow along with the campaign however there will be some 'extensions' of time and outside moments in order to drive the plot and character(s) I have created. The reality of the actual game timeline was just about a week so I had to extend some points out in order to really create a story (and development) for this!

Thank you all for being here and reading. I appreciate the support and any feedback you'd like to give. Of course, votes let me know you're enjoying too (and are also appreciated)!!

Like other stories I've written this one will have an updating schedule. I have decided every FRIDAY will be dedicated to this one's updates (minus today of course)!

Here's to next Friday my lovely readers!
