After a long day a work, full of meetings that talked about team development I was so glad to see that it was five o'clock so I could go home and relax. But as I'm driving home I remember that the Christmas Party is tonight. Ughhh. I sigh and remember that I got all of the groceries and supplies this past weekend so it can't be that stressful to set everything up, can it?
After thirty minutes of hanging decorations from the celling, setting out supplies for gingerbread houses, and making some warm tea to drink I am finally done decorating for the party. I walk toward my living room which is massive, it has an L shaped sectional in the back corner and huge windows that overlook the city. There is a coffee table in the middle of the floor and a big Christmas tree next to the fire place. The cream colored walls and the dimmed lights give the room a warm and cozy vibe to it. There's a big
I decide to sit out snacks and different decorations for our cookie decorating. I go and wrap my presents for the secret Santa gift exchange. I put on home alone and finally sit down when all of the preparations are done.
When the doorbell rings I see Julia and Claire standing at the step. "Welcome in guys!" I say cheerfully.
"Hi, how are you doing?" Claire asks while siting her gift next to mine that sits on the kitchen counter.
"I'm good, how are you?" I ask in return.
"I'm doing great," she says while giving me a hug.
"Lexie is on her way, she's caught in some traffic and the moment." Julia says while giving ma a big hug.
"That's okay, we can wait. I've missed you all so much." I say, "we need to get together more often."
"Yeah, we do." Julia says while Claire is munching on some M&M's.
"Should we order pizza?" I inquire.
"Yes," they say in sync.
"What kind, pepperoni and everything sound good?"
"Yes, that sounds amazing." Julia says.
Once pizza was ordered we sit on the couch and chat about how life has been when the doorbell rang. "I'll get it." I say while walking to the door. "Welcome in!" I say to see Lexie standing outside holding her gift.
Once her gift is sat down on the table I give her a long hug. "Oh, I've missed you so much." I say.
"I've missed you too Ella, how's Rowan?"
"He's good," I say in response while pulling away from the hug.
"Did he finally ask you out?" Claire asks while chiming in on the conversation.
"No, he hasn't." I say while walking back to the couch.
"The man is so blind." Julia says. "When will he realize that he has feelings for you? It's been almost your whole lives that he's been interested in you."
"Well, in the beginning he had interest in me, but throughout middle and high school he was more like and older brother." I state, "but, recently he has been coming around more and more... so who knows."
"Well I hope he realizes how amazing you are because you two would be perfect together." Lexie says with a big smile.
"Yeah, who wants to decorate some cookies?" I ask while jumping up and heading to the kitchen.
While we were decorating some cookies the door bell rings and I run to grab my purse that sits in my home office. I walk to the door to pay the delivery driver. "Thank you," I say while grabbing the pizza and closing the door.
We sit down and eat pizza, while talking about meeting up sometime in the spring.
"Okay, i want to open secrets Santa gifts because mines super funny." I say.
"Okay." Julia says. We all grab our gifts and hand it to the right person. "On the count of three open them."
"Ready?" Claire asks.
"1... 2... 3..." we all say in sync. Laughter filled the room and we all start talking about the funny gifts we got for each other.
After all the fun and laughter we all say our goodbyes for the night. " I love and will miss you all." I say while we have a group hug.
"Be safe everyone," Claire says.
"I can't wait for the spring get together." Julia says.
"Me either, be safe girls." I say while waving bye and closing my front door.
Once everyone has left I sit down on the couch and drift into my thoughts.
What would my life look like if my parents were still alive? Would I have this job, gone to the same college or have the same friends? Would I have had this close of a relationship with Rowan and his whole family? Would I still dream to be a mother? What would my life be like if they were here?
I heard a nock on my door and I came back to my reality. "Come in," I said knowing that Rowan was standing on the other side.
I got up and gave him a long hug after he closed the door. "I missed you," I said while kissing him then pulling away."I missed you too, Ella." Rowan said with his deep voice, "How was your day?"
"It was okay, I had multiple meetings and got home a little late. I just feel stressed and very overwhelmed." I said while moving back over to sit on the couch.
"I hope it gets better babe," he says while slipping his shoes off by the door then moving to sit beside me.
"It has, we had the little Christmas get together with the girls and it cheered me up." I say while pulling a blanket over me.
"I know, Claire texted me about it." He says while grabbing my hand, "She said you seem off. I know that you're stressed out. Ella I love you and want what's best for you and honestly I think that you need to take a break from work."
"I was thinking that too, but I don't want to let my co-workers down."
"Would you want to take a trip back home not only for the holidays but because it will be fun, and you'll hopefully find some peace in mind."
"Yes, that sounds lovely." I say in response.
