charles had begun regretting his decision of accepting the offer from diana.

"camilla would have been much more entertaining than this." he thought to himself, sighing as he forced himself to stop thinking of camilla.

"she's wrong for me."

"charles?" a soft voice called out his name, as he looked up to see the woman he had been expecting.

she smiled at him as their eyes met and took a seat opposite to him at the table.

charles was shook at the look of his wife.

she was wearing a checker black and white dress with black stockings and heels, which he must say was quite different than the girl he had first met.

"she has grown into a fine woman"

it had been 11 years since when he had first met diana at her house, dressed like, what they liked to call, 'a mad tree', from shakespeare's 'a midsummer night's dream', both of their's favourite play.

charles gazed at diana and chuckled at the thought of camilla in the same dress as her.

he would never have thought about camilla in a bad way before, but if he had to break things with her, he had to bring himself to hate her as well.

the soft chuckle let out by her husband certainly frightened diana, as she looked around awkwardly thinking about her actions yet, to figure out what she did wrong.

"no, it isn't you." charles chuckled upon seein diana's awkward and worried smile.

silence filled the hall soon after.

"well, if i were honest, i didn't think you would actually accept my invitation." diana spoke with an amazed smile, partially smirking to see his reaction.

"i've been quite busy you see," charles answered.

"your princely-duties, i suppose?" diana added with evident sarcasm in her voice.

"exactly." the two let out a laugh.

it had been a while since the two had a moment to talk, the only time they'd seem happy was when they were eith their boys.

the night went on, and the two found out they had much more in common than it seemed.

as much as she enjoyed the dinner, a lingering question still kept diana curious.

how did charles find time for her?
