charles slammed the door to his office as he sat on his chair in pure angst after storming off at his sister.

"what does one have to do to get some kindness in this family!"

he knew what anne said was right, camilla was wrong for him, and she was the object of his affections solely because of the attention she gave him.

he, at the same time, refused to accept words of love and acts of kindness from his wife — diana.

she was the only one putting in effort for the survival of the marriage, and everyone wanted them not to separate, but he simply couldn't let camilla get away, after all, she was the woman who fascinated the prince of wales the most.

he bit his lip as he thought about how camilla did not hesitate to marry andrew while he was away at the navy, and resumed to continue a relationship with both himself and andrew — never denying loving either.

had she played him?

he felt like an absolute idiot coming to a realisation about how camilla used him for pleasure, while diana was the one to love him.

"your royal highness." a knock on the door interrupted charles' thoughts.

"come in." charles spoke.

it was his personal assistant, and maybe his best friend, james.

"the princess of wales requested to have dinner with your highness." james stated as he was met with a cold stare from the prince, who was lost in thought.

not wanting to be a victim of charles' ill temper, he put his lips in a straight line and spoke, filling the awkward silence between the two, "i will let her know your highness is busy."

"no," charles spoke in a low voice, much to james' surprise. "let her know i will be there."

james looked around confused, not knowing whether it was the same prince who absolutely despised the princess.

"you may leave now." charles ordered in an annoyed voice, making james leave at once.

charles and diana had just recently celebrated their 7th anniversary, when diana had recorded a song for him which he insulted in a conversation with anne, following their argument.

"it wouldn't feel too out of place, now." he muttered to himself.

before leaving his office to get ready for a dinner with his wife, charles put down the picture of camilla, storing it inside a drawer he barely used, and replaced it with one of diana and him.
