As you sprinted to Evil Hall for History of Villainy, running late due to your little talk'' with Lady Lesso you couldn't tell if your heart was racing because you and her were all alone in a room and she was standing so close to you or because you feared her. You hoped it was the latter. The classroom was just like the rest of the school building, scorched and filled with ashes and dust. The teacher hadn't arrived yet and students were scattered into small groups, talking and gossiping. Cecile sat in the front row next to another girl who had bronze short hair. She turned around looked at you and gestured to come over. ''Good to see your not in the Doom Room, What did she want from you?'' She half-joked.You gave her a small smile and shrugged. ''Just giving some praise for my grades.'' The lie slipped easily off your tongue and, well it wasn't a lie completely but you thought it would be better to not talk about the rest. You didn't want to scare your new friend away after all.''Praise? Lady Lesso the dean of Evil giving out praise!? She must feel sick or meaby an Ever bewitched her!'' Cecile squealed.''Or Lesso's got a favorite'' The bronze-haired girl next to Cecile grinnedCecile rolled her eyes dramatically. ''Lady Lesso doesn't do favorites believe me.'' She sighed. You looked at her, she seemed annoyed, you remembered how Cecile usually gets second ranks, maybe she was trying to become Lady Lesso's favorite, and failing.''Oh I'm Samantha but just call me Sam, your the reader right?'' The bronze-haired girl squealed after Cecile elbowed her. She extended her hand out to you.You took her hand and shook it. ''Yup that's that's me.''''Sam is a good friend of mine, we've known each other forever.'' Cecile explained.''Why haven't I seen you before, I could've sworn you weren't here until now'' you spoke carefully not to sound rude.''I got in late, the Stymphs couldn't get through since there was a huge snowstorm.'' She explained. You mentally noted that the skeleton birds were called Stymphs and scolded yourself for now finding that knowledge out sooner. Before you could ask anything further a student came walking in and announced that the class had been canceled and everyone was to return to their dorms until lunch. You looked at Cecile and she rolled her eyes. ''Professor Sader teaches both schools and alternates between them, Since school just started they most likely made a mistake with the schedules.''
The class ran empty quickly and you were left alone in the hallway, You figured you might as well use this spare time to visit the library. It took all of your will not to run out the moment you came in. Perched atop Vice's top floor, the Library of Vice was like a normal library, only after a flood, fire, and tornado had swept through. Its rusty iron bookshelves were skewed at odd angles, with thousands of fallen books all over the floor. The walls were furry green with mold, the brown carpet was moist and sticky, and the room smelled like a mix of smoke and sour milk.Behind a desk in the corner was a gelatinous toad, puffing a cigar and stamping books one after one before tossing them on the floor."Subject of interest," he burped.''uhh..'' You realized you didn't know exactly what you were looking for. Answers. But answers to what exactly? Why students seemed to be afraid of your room? Why you were the only reader? Meaby some information about the past readers here, after all, it seemed important enough for Lady Lesso to have brought it up. As you thought about it, more and more questions started forming in your head. You decided to start at the beginning.''Is there anything on the history of this school?'' You tried. The toad nodded to a tall shelf in the corner. There were about then thick books on the shelf, they looked quite worn out.
You picked the biggest one; History of The School of Good and Evil and started to read. There were two School Masters first. And they were twins. One Good, one EvilThe was an illustration under the text, depicting two young men in a castle chamber, keeping watch over an enchanted pen. One brother wore long black robes, the other white. You could make out their identical faces, ghostly pale hair, and deep blue eyes. But where the white-robed brother's face was warm, gentle, the black-robed one's was icy and hard. Still, something about both of their faces seemed familiar. And these brothers ruled both schools and protected the Storian. You read further Good won half the time and Evil won half the time.If Good went on a streak, Evil would find new tricks, forcing Good to improve its defense and beat them backYour eyes moved to the next illustration, where the Evil brother had gone from ruling peacefully alongside his brother to attacking him with a barrage of spells. But the Evil one thought he could control the Storian—and make Evil invincible. So he gathers an army to destroy his brother and starts a war."The Great War," You read out loud. "Where everyone took a side between Good brother and Evil brother."And in the final battle between them, someone won.You eyed the last illustration—a sea of Evers and Nevers bowed before a masked School Master in silver robes, the glowing Storian floating above his hands. But no one knows who won."Studying already? It's only the first week of school" Sam grinned suddenly in front of you.Startled you looked up. ''oh..yeah, I thought i'd catch up, we didn't exactly learn about magic history back at home'' You smiled softly at the memory of home. She pulled out a chair next to you and sat down, glancing over the pages of your book. You looked at her own book she was carrying in her hands; ICE SPELLS FOR BEGINNERS.''Ah, the history of our school founders, that book is pretty outdated by now though'' She muttered glancing at your book."Oh? what changed then?" You asked."The Evil brother turned out to be the schoolmaster, the two readers killed him four years ago." She spoke "Evil won that year but since then its back to how it was the last 200 years.'' She huffed annoyed.''The readers killed him? why?'' You asked her surprised.Sam shrugged. ''He used one of 'em to destroy everyone in the school.'' Your eyes widened. And Sam snickered. ''No worries, they managed to stop him and now our two deans have taken over his work.''You nodded, that made sense.''What are you learning ice spells for?'' You asked eyeing her book again.''Gotta know your enemies well.'' She replied opening the book. She seemed deep in thought so you let the subject fall and went back to one of the bookshelves, placing your book back where you found it and picking up another. This time the book was about previous Readers that had attended the school, You skipped most of the pages, and all the way to the end you stopped. The last Readers that came before you.Agatha and Sophie. You read how they thought they were mixed up, how slowly they discovered they were in the right schools after all and how their story had turned out.''Real mad that one.'' Sam commented looking at your book.''Sophie?''''Yeah, She was pure Evil that's for sure, wish I could've been there though. I'd love to knock down some Evers.'' She smirked with a glint of mischief in her green eyes. You look at the illustrations, she didn't seem even remotely evil you thought, although you shouldn't judge her on looks alone.''Seem familiar?'' Sam asked staring at you deeply. You furrowed your eyebrows together, confused. ''Nevermind, it's just rumors after all.'' She whispered so low you could barely hear before taking her book and leaving.New questions seemed to build up more and more the longer you searched for answers. You read a bit further on them until you stumbled upon a piece of information that surprised you.
