Very Unlikely

Amina and I held hands, twirling each other down the cobblestone street. Fairy lights hung from building to building, with the sounds of locals in the background. People lined the streets left and right, eating and enjoying the warm airy night.

" Life doesn't get any better than this", Amina squeals happily, looking around at everything there is to see.

I smile to myself, secretly agreeing with my crazy other half.

" I cannot believe that i have been missing out traveling and experiencing stuff like this.", Amina continues. I nod in agreement excitedly.

" Well between my grandparents and your brothers, we might as well be nuns. There was no way they were going to let us experience traveling, let alone to another country. I was surprised Sergio, Amina's oldest brother, didn't invite himself along on the trip when you told him about it.", I replied curiously.

Looking at Amina i noticed she had a sheepish look on her face. My mouth dropped open in disbelief.

No

No

No

No fucking way!

"Amina, please tell me you told your brothers about this trip", I whisper in shock. She shakes her side to side slowly, looking guilty as ever.

Fucking hell.

" Do you realize what you've done? Sergio is going to actually murder us. Amina, my grandparents, think we got Sergio's permission to go on this trip. What do you think is going to happen when they find out that you lied?", I yell, panicking.

I search for the closest spot to sit, finding a bench, and contemplate how I'm going to fix this.

Amina sits down beside me.

"Bitch, I'm sorry that I lied to you, but i just wanted to do something different. I know that doing this is going to have major blowback, but i needed to get out from under them. I want to see the world and meet new people, and this is finally our chance! Please don't be mad at me for wanting to experience more.", Amina says sorrily.

I take a deep breath.

I understand where Amina comes from. She has had nothing short of a hard life being raised by her four older brothers after the death of their parents. She was only 2 years old when her parents died in a car accident, leaving her brothers to take care of her. Though they mean well, they never allowed her to do anything, let alone travel. At 22 years old, she's now craving getting to do things they wouldn't allow. I grew up very similar to Amina, never getting to know my parents. My grandparents have raised me my whole life, and i never questioned how i came to be in their care. I was happy with what i had, and never felt less than loved. Though i was jealous of seeing other kids doing things that i would never be allowed to do, like go to sleepovers, and parties, i conformed to the life offered to me. Meeting Amina in church was the best thing that had ever happened to me.

"Sophia", Amina says, breaking me from my deep thoughts.

" I'm not mad at you bitch, I'm just worried. We are now in another country by ourselves, and no one knows where we are. What if we get kidnapped or some crazy shit like that?", I ask.

Amina shrugs her shoulders smiling.

" Bitch, the odds of us getting kidnapped are like one in 300,000.", she says laughing.

Wrapping me in a bear hug she says" Let's go have some drinks, good food, and end the night dancing" pointing to a restaurant down the street, with music coming from its open doors.

I agree reluctantly.

There wasn't anything i could do to fix this mess anyway. So, i figured i might as well enjoy what will likely be my last night of freedom anyways.

Once we're in the restaurant, we're quickly seated at a table.

Amina orders us a bottle of champagne, and an appetizer of calamari.

I can't help but look around in awe at the hustle and bustle around me.

The waitress arrives quickly with our drinks, and i quickly drink my first glass. Amina follows suit, immediately refilling them both.

One bottle of champagne, 4 shots of Casa Migos, and a 4-course dinner later, Amina begins to fill out the check.

" Grazie Sergio for paying for our meal", she says handing her card to the waitress.

I shake my head, laughing at her antics.

" You do realize that he will use that to track us, right?", i ask.

She shrugs, waving me away. " What's the saying? Oh yeah, when in Rome! Except change Rome to Italy!", she says slurring her words.

i laugh at her antics and help her out of her chair. We walk together meeting the waitress halfway, retrieve her card, and leave.

Back on the main street, it's not as well-lit anymore with places shutting down for the night. We begin back the same way we started, when i feel eyes on me. I stop to look around, as Amina continues ahead of me. I don't see anyone or anything out of the ordinary so i continue on.

" Excuse me Miss, did you drop this?", a male voice asked behind me. I turn to see who has got to be one of the hottest men alive holding out Amina's card to me. Caribbean blue eyes, soft pouty lips, and what looks to be the softest curly hair greet me.

Jesus

Mary

and Joseph

I break from my trance and accept the card back.

"Thank ", i begin but I'm cut off by the sound of Amina yelling. I turn around only to find she's nowhere to be seen. Then suddenly I feel a prick in my arm, and everything goes black
