the first murders

LYDIA CHAFFMAN SPRAWLED ACROSS her bed, phone in hand. Lydia was the 'it' girl of her time, at her high school.

"Yeah well, he's not here yet," Casey spoke from the other side of the line. "He was supposed to be here 15 minutes ago."

"I'm sure he ran into traffic or... something," Lydia reassured her.

Casey sighed on the other end. "At this time of night?"

She sat up. "I don't know Casey, maybe," she said, hearing Lincoln yell for her. "I have to go, Leon wants me."

"Okay," she said. "Bye Lydia,"

"Bye Casey," she said and heard the other end disconnect, she set her phone down and made her way downstairs.

Her elder brother Leon was in the kitchen. "Dinner's ready," he told her. Leon had been raising the girl since she was 13, he was only 9 years older than her. They lost their mother when Lydia was 10, their father was barely around. He said it was because of his business trips, but Lydia assumed it was because of their mother. That's when her brother came home to take care of Lydia.

From time to time she would stay at her aunts and uncles house, where her two cousins. She often shared a room with her cousin Tatum Riley.

Lydia sat at the kitchen island as a plate of food was placed in front of her. "Thank you."

He nodded, sitting beside her and eating. "Do you need a ride tomorrow?"

She shook her head. "I think Casey is gonna pick me up," she said and ate her food. "Thanks though."

He nodded. "Of course." He said. Leon worked at the local police station in their town.
