Kara woke without remembering a single dream. She didn't even remember if she had tossed and turned.
"The watch will tell me."
The data she saw on her phone from the watch informed her she rolled over three times.
"That's it? No heart arrhythmia?"
She found she felt disappointed.
"I should be glad."
Especially since the night of uninterrupted sleep left her feeling refreshed and energized.
"I should do some exercising tonight."
Her morning progressed normally. She experienced no dizziness. Her only incident before she got to her desk was during her ride in the elevator. A woman giggle and touched the watch Kara wore.
"Oh, my gosh. I didn't know those were still around. That is so vintage."
"Antique," Kara said. "But it still works."
She felt like taking it off, but she didn't want to miss an episode of dizziness.
"Vintage my ass," she said to herself when she reached her desk.
She felt annoyed, until she thought about it, and she laughed.
"That is so last year," she said in a mocking voice.
The humor made her feel better. It helped that no one bothered her and the day felt like it went quicker than usual.
"Have you taken any notes?"
It was shortly after four. Kara turned to see Phyllis.
"Yes, actually. I've discovered whoever I am channeling has heart arrhythmia. I'm making sure it's not me." She raised her arm to show the watch.
"I'd say it's someone overseas. It would be nice if you heard an accent, but I'm sure your mind is correcting for that."
"That might explain the castle like settings."
"No dragons, yet?"
"No. Not yet. Just the references to them. Maybe they're meaning a car, like a jaguar."
Phyllis smiled. "Perhaps." She turned and left.
Kara wondered if she was patronizing her to make her feel like she did when people teased her.
"But I never teased you."
At five, she headed for the stairs to avoid the elevator and any rude comments about her watch. With surprise, she was almost run down by two men coming from a floor above her.
"Excuse me." She stepped out of their way.
They ignored her and kept going.
Snooty executives, she thought.
She could hear other people lower down, but no more above her. After stepping down to the fifth floor landing, she felt dizzy and had to sit down.
"You're overexerting yourself. Sit."
The weather felt cool. She could see big fluffy clouds in the distance. Her eyes dropped to see stone paving.
"I'm fine," the breathy voice said.
"Sit."
"Dirgen, I'm fine."
Kara recognized him as the first man she had seen. He was the good-looking one. She could see his clothing was like she had first seen him, in leather pants and silk tunic, but now he was also wearing a long, heavy-looking leather coat. His scent was the same, including the scent of peppermint.
