TONI'S POV
Here I am.
Sitting in a booth at our favourite diner.
Alone."Hey Toni, do you want the usual?" Pop asked me, interrupting my thoughts.
"Yes please," I smiled at him. He reciprocated with a warm smile back and went to the counter, preparing my order.
I went back to looking out the window. It's been a couple of years since the gang and I graduated high school. It's also been a couple of years since me and Cheryl broke up. If you're wondering, it was mutual.
Before graduation, our relationship was drifting apart. We weren't fighting or anything like that, just the connection we built after all these years wasn't there anymore. It was like the spark in our relationship was gone. When the graduation ceremony was over, we went back to Cheryl's and shared a moment realising that our break up was inevitable.
God, I miss her. Her beautiful face, her smile that could light up a room and the infinite love she gave me throughout the years we were together.
I miss her.I haven't seen or spoken to her since we said our final goodbyes before I set off to college. After I graduated there with full honours, I came back to Riverdale. I have seen some of my friends again, including Archie and Betty. However, not her.
I know Cheryl still lives here, but I've never seen her around. Betty has told me that Cheryl rarely leaves her house and has become more of an introvert ever since our parting. But I still don't understand how I haven't seen her, especially in this small town.
I will admit, part of me hopes we get a chance to meet again. I'm scared to death to see her, but at the same time, I want to see her. I know we're both getting older and we are supposed to move on, but I just can't.
But I'm over her. I'm serious, I am 100% over...
My reflections crashed onto the floor when I heard the bell ring.
I looked up and saw someone walk in and walked to a booth.
I didn't manage to see her face as she was walking in the opposite direction to where I was sitting, but I saw her red hair. Red hair that looks exactly like Cheryl's. The curls are gorgeous, and the colour was this luscious red that only existed upon her hair. She wore a red dress, the same one when I met her.
Could that be her after all these years?
What should I say to her?Suddenly all the memories started flooding back.
FLASHBACK
"TT, where are we going?" my blindfolded girlfriend questioned me curiously.
"Cher just trust me," I told her. She sighed but carried on following my guidance to the special location I was taking her to.
We finally reached the place so I turned her around.
"Toni, what on earth is going on?" she asked, while I was slowly taking her blindfold off.
When her eyes opened, her body gave off this beautiful light. When her eyes laid upon mine, she instantly gave me a bright, vibrant smile, I swear it lit up the whole area.
"Happy 3 year anniversary babe," I exclaimed to her. She gave me a confused smile.
"Is your present kidnapping me?" she interrogated me. I rolled my eyes at her.
"No stupid," I told her. I then kissed her cheek and turned her around, revealing the outdoor movie screen that took me hours to set up.
I had this projector pointing at a screen I managed to put up. I also had a blanket for us to sit on, covered with Cheryl's favourite flowers. I also hung up fairy lights around the area, making it look magical. Basically, I'm amazing.
As soon as Cher saw it, her eyes lit up and she looked like this excited kid that just entered a sweet shop. Then she looked at me with loving eyes that make me realise how much I adore her.
She then grabbed my face and pulled me into a long kiss. It wasn't full of lust, just love and passion.
She pulled away and beamed her glowing smile towards me, releasing all the love I need in life. She then started dragging me towards the blanket and snuggled into me.
"What movie do you want to watch my love?" I asked her, fully taking in the moment that was occurring.
"THE LITTLE MERMAID!" she screamed.
I smiled at her excitement and wasted no time fulfilling my girlfriend's wishes.
Throughout the movie, I kept looking at Cheryl full of love and happiness knowing that I have the privilege to call her mine. She caught me staring and gave me a look.
"What?" she asked confused.
"I just love you," I simply answered.
She looked at me with those adoring eyes she owns and her toothy smile appeared soon after.
"I love you too," she replied.
I then pulled her into a heartfelt kiss, which soon turned passionate and fierce. She climbed onto my lap and her warm hands fell onto my cheeks.
"Don't you want to finish the movie," I asked, pulling away.
"Fuck the movie," she replied, slamming her lips back onto mine.
The whole world felt like it stopped on its axis and the only existing souls at the moment is ours. Right now it was only her and I, and the only way to spend this time together is expressing our love for one another.
END OF FLASHBACK
I got out of the booth and started walking towards her. However, my feet were frozen on the ground and I didn't move. I just stood there staring at the booth, looking blankly.
Please tell me that's her.
The truth is that no one's like her. If I keep telling myself that I'm over her, I would just be lying to my heart. And a heart can't be lied to.
While I was still staring blankly, she got out of the booth and turned around.
Same height as her, same hair as her and even the same clothes as her.
But it wasn't her.It was this young lady, probably just enjoying her day and somehow caused me to go through all five stages of grief in about 3 minutes.
My heart shattered. And when I say shattered, I mean it broke into a million pieces. I don't get it. I have been able to convince myself that Cheryl and I are fully over and there's no going back to the relationship and that I should just move.
But I guess I'm not as over her as I thought.
And I thought I was.1118 words
