"Excuse me, what?" She asked Milo, while bringing herself next to his shoulder "What did you just say?"
"That he came back from somewhere."
Her heart was beating fast now. Ain't no way this was happening. No. Absolutely not, this can't be real.
"What's his name?" She panicked
"I'm not sure, something wit-
"Milo you make that head of yours think fast right now or else -
She looked up and she saw him walking into class. It was really him, Troy. Troy just entered her classroom. He sure looked all grown up, his jawline was sharp, he had facial hair, and he was a lot taller. He sure looked like a bad boy now, his style had a pure California vibe.
Sophie was in shock. Her eyes were glued on Troy while he didn't notice her, he took his seat on the first row of desks. He seemed a bit off and anxious which was completely natural as now he was the new kid.
"I bet you know him too" Milo added judging by the expression on Sophie's face. "Are you okay? He had turned around on his seat "You look pale"
"I was not prepared for this!" She said her voice shaking. "I need to go out"
"Are you crazy? Milo whispered "Class is about to begin, and you already missed the first period, you can't leave"
"Yes I know, but I'm about to pass out so it would be best for me t-
"Delarosa!" she heard the professor calling her name "Did you remember to do that essay we talked about?"
Troy turned around fast and he fixed his eyes on Sophie. She noticed but she tried not to show it. She felt his eyes on her.
"Sure, I will sent you via email as soon as I'm home" She said and kicked Milo's seat who was trying to hold back his laugh.
"That goes for you as well Mr. Adler. Stop laughing! Now how about you inform us on where we were exactly and what we talked about last week."
"Me?"
"Yes please. Now c'mon don't be shy"
"Now this will take a while." Sophie said under her breath and Milo gave her the finger without looking back.
"Delarosa you're next!" The teacher yelled and Troy couldn't help but smile widely while remembering all the good times he had with Sophie and how much he missed being in a class with his friends. Sophie now glanced back at him, she mouthed "i'm screwed" and he let out a small laugh.
*********
The rest of the periods seemed way more interesting, Troy stole some glances of Sophie and he realized she was watching him too. He was impressed by how smart she was in math, science and even biology. When the bell rang everyone run for lunch while Troy was held back by the professor. He sure had a lot of gaps and he would need help with a lot of classes but he has promised to himself that he would try his best.
He went to his locker trying to balance all the books he held on one arm while opening the locker with his free one.
"I was wondering who would get that empty locker"
He looked on his left and realized Sophie was his locker neighbor. He gave her a broad grin. "Don't tell me you missed me that much Delarosa"
"Absolutely not. I've learned my lesson." she said while putting her books in her locker and getting two notebooks out. Her tone was bitter. It was obvious and totally expected. Troy knew she was probably mad at him, for not texting back, for not returning calls.
