Hi, Thank you for checking out my story, this story was the very first one I ever wrote. I am working on its 5th edit and hope to have it finished by next year and then it will slowly be moving over to amazon. Let me know parts you enjoy or would like to see changed etc all feedback is welcomed but please be kind. A new chapter will be posted every Tuesday at 2pm <3

My alarm starts ringing. I glance at the bright numbers reading 6:00 am. I groan, not wanting to get up sighing I pull the covers back, climb out of bed, and make my way slowly to the closet. I grab a black, long-sleeved shirt and black jeans. Making my way to the bathroom, catching. a glimpse of myself in the mirror, dear god... I look like The Walking Dead. I put on some make-up. Ok, I still look somewhat dead, but less? Which I guess is an improvement. I decide to just wear my hair down, nothing can save this hot mess that is me anyway.

"Vi, breakfast is ready," Derek calls up to me. Giving myself one last look over before heading downstairs. taking a seat at the bar. Looking at my brother, "Dad asleep?"

"Yeah, with the snowstorm coming up he will be working a bit more," he says, putting a plate in front of me. He try's to hide his frustration but he has never been great at masking his emotions. I honestly don't know what my dad and I would do without him... that makes me feel selfish though. He should be leaving off to college next year and getting out of this town but now my dad needs his help. Losing my appetite, I take a few bites to appease him before dumping the rest in the trashcan.

Looking at the fire roaring in the fire place, the flames dancing memorizes me for a moment before my mom's picture catch's my attention. God I miss her. It has been about four months since she passed away. Derek blames himself, He was driving the car.

He and my mom were really close, they did everything together. Kind of how my dad and I used to be. They were driving home from a concert when a drunk driver ran a red light slamming into the passenger side. She died on the way to the hospital. Blinking away the tears before the fall. We never talk about that night, about her, dad is never home anymore.

I need to get out of here, Standing I head towards the door, grabbing my back bag. "Umm... Vi"? Derek Questions.

Pausing at the door, exhaling the breath I was holding, I glance at him. "Yeah?"

"You might want to put shoes on," he says, a worried expression painted on his face.

I look down at my feet. "Oh... right. I guess I forgot that part," I say, grabbing my boots and putting them on in a frenzy

"Are you ok?" his eyebrow raised.

"Yeah.. just tired I guess," I reply.

He doesn't look convinced. "You know... you can talk to me right..." he says, shifting back and forth.

"I know," I say forcing a smile.

"Want a ride to school?" he asks.

I shake my head. "I can take the bus. You don't have a class for a few hours anyways" I reply. Him being a senior he has the first two periods off. He starts to say something before shaking his head and looking back at his laptop

I make my way to the bus stop. I stand awkwardly off to the side. I am kind of a loner. Everyone knows me because of my brother, he has always been popular. He is on the football team, I am not popular though. I have a few friends. My best friend moved this summer. So now I tend to be alone. It also seems your mother dying grants you a different form of popularity. I hate the looks they give me like they are waiting for me to fall apart or break something. I stand off to the side waiting for the bust while everyone talks about winter break... I see the bus coming and get ready to get on, putting my headphones in. Playing "Feel it too" By Dream state.
