The next day starts like most my day's expect I sit next to Emily. Jake sits in front of us ignoring us the whole ride to school. Which is fine I guess. I woke up feeling hopeless today, I tried to remind myself I was making a new friend but after Kayla, after my ex I just did not trust they'd stay. I wanted to put my headphones in and drown out the noise in my head but Emily was telling me about going to Ireland over the winter break. Her mom works all over the world and is rarely home. I spend most the day letting Emily do all the talking. 

Walking towards the cafe for lunch, Kayla rams into me hard not being in the mood today I snap "What the fuck is your issue?" Crossing my arms over my chest. 

Smiling at me "I forget you have a temper, Sorry I just didn't see you, no need to get worked up" Her and her little minions giggle an annoying high pitch giggle. 

Feeling a lot of eye's on me, suddenly very aware everyone is looking at me like I am crazy. I wanted to disappear, evaporate. it is moments like these that I just wish it was me and not my mom, something so small made me so angry and now everyone is pointing and laughing at me.

"Sorry" I whisper before going to get in line to get my food for the first time in two days Emily and Jake are not right next to me, in fact they are all the way in the back sitting down. Emily is looking at me whispering something to Jake. 

Great they probably want nothing to do with me anymore. I exit the cafe heading to the exit. I stand outside, letting the cold air kiss my skin, the snow slowly falling calms me down. I have no idea why I am feeling so low, I normally can power through these emotions, these dark thoughts but today they are winning. I take a few deep breaths in. Sitting down on the steps. 

The doors open, "Hey, you ok?" Derek sits beside me. 

Sighing, he has got to be tired of having to worry about me, about taking care of me. 

Shaking my head yes  "Just one of those day's where missing mom is making me emotional in every way, does this ever get easier?" I glance at him. 

He nods his head "I have no idea, I hope so" He wraps his arm around me. "Kayla has a way of bringing out the worst in people" He laughs 

Rolling my eyes "You would know you dated her for two years" I remind him. 

Shaking his head "Yea, well she was different back than or I was also kind of an asshole than too" We laugh 

"Oh you where awful, god I hated talking to you" looking out at the trees that line the school. The door opens behind us. 

"Oh.. sorry was just coming to check on you" Emily says from behind us. Turning to look at her. 

Derek's eyes light up when he sees her, her's as well. Oh brother. "Emily this is my annoying older brother Derek, Derek this is Emily  and her brother Jake, twins by the way, they are new here" 

"Hi," Emily says. She smiles at him. He hasn't  taken his eyes off her. "Hi" he repeats.  Jake rolls his eyes  "Hi," Jake whispers in a mocking tone. I laugh before covering my mouth. 

 "I really do not want to go to class, can we ditch the rest of the day?" I give my brother a pleading look. 

Rolling his eyes "Fine, but I have to come up with a good excuse for missing practice"  He thinks for a moment. "I can just say my sister had a meltdown or something" I punch him in the arm. 

"I take that back you are still an asshole" Emily and Jake laugh. 

"You play football?" Jake questions. Oh now he talks? Rude, just rude. They talk for a few moments about football and cheer leaders. 

Emily starts mocking them, making me wheeze from laughing so hard. 

"Ya'll ditching with us?" Derek asks. 

"Wow, we just met you and already we are breaking rules" Emily smiles at Derek, who's face is lite up like a Christmas tree. 

"If ya'll are going to be creepily smiling at each other all day, I will ditch by myself" I fake gage. 

Emily rolls her eyes "Oh hush" she smiles at me, tucking her hair behind her ear, seeming a bit more shy now.

"Yes, we are ditching I need a place to hide from Kayla, she is everywhere" Jake says a haunted look on his face. We all laugh before heading to Dereks car. 

Jake talks more than he has since I met him, he and Derek seem to really of hit it off. Derek and I have never shared friends, our circles always circled around each other and it would sometimes cause us to hang out but I was mostly a home body unless my best friend would drag me to a party. 

We pull up to our house. Dad is not home guess he really is working all day. We head inside. 

We show them around our house, before we end up back in the kitchen. We stand in silence for a moment no one really sure what to do. "We should take a few shots, maybe play never have I ever?" Emily suggest. 

"Ok never have I ever stolen" Emily giggles, she's already had a few shots. I have yet to drink, until now. 

Emily raises an eyebrow as I take the shot, I make a funny face, before downing my soda "That is gross" I wipe my mouth. 

"You have stolen?" Derek asks looking surprised. 

Looking at everyone "Oh yea.. um well when Kayla, me and Kyle used to hang out.. I stole a bracelet for a dare"  Looking at the shot glass that now had more vodka in it. 

"Wait you and Kayla used to be friends?" Jake asks. 

Nodding my head yes. "They used to do everything together.. until Kayla and I started dating, she got popular and changed drastically" He takes a shot even though no one said a never have I ever. 

After several shots later, Derek is invited to a party, he invites us all. I wanted to go to sleep but Jake was down and Emily guilt tripped me. I just want to cuddle my stuff animal and get some sleep.
