Swiss was practically devastated. He really felt a one way connection with a truly unique being. And it was torture. How long would he have to put up with this? The weaker, smaller ghoul got to have Mari. It's not fair! If only he'd gotten to her sooner, if only he'd stopped being so shy with strangers. He still wanted her so badly. Not just as an object of desire, but there's an ache in his heart. What else could it be but love? Cruel temptress.
——————————————"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Rain knelt to her, exhaustion wore him down, that gut punch finally started to hurt. His hands found hers and he looked over her body, her features, and he found nothing. But he smelled her. That lascivious scent, usually an indicator of a sensual feeling, it was beginning to fade with guilt replacing that arousal.
Swiss felt so strongly that he'd fight Rain? Rain felt so responsible that he'd defend her?
How had she missed these feelings? How had she been so blind?
"No... no." It took her breath away. She could barely look Rain in the eyes.
"Sweet thing, look at me." Rain redirected her gaze with a finger, and there, something soft and warm lingered in each other's eyes.
"Rain." Mari whispered softly.
Rain, looked at her lips and back at her eyes.
"Mari." He almost chuckled.
He didn't notice her fingertips finding the edge of his mask, prying between the skin of his cheek and the cool mask interior. Prodding and feeling his smooth skin underneath.
He melted against her touch, however simple it was.
And there that scent was again, that longing one.
She wanted to take off his mask and kiss him all over. She wanted to have him. It wasn't all lust. And to be honest, the mood wasn't there. She still felt guilty. If she had made her feelings obvious, maybe she wouldn't have led on Swiss. Maybe there wouldn't be such a rift between them.
What pain has she caused?
"What do you want to do?" He whispered the question. If he could, he'd pick her up and just hide her away from the world. His heart pounded and ached.
"I'll probably take a bath and nap." She murmured, drawing closer to him to rest her forehead on his.
"Okay. Let's do that." He said softly before trying a small smile.
"Kiss me?"
That threw Rain for a loop, he simply shot her a look and didn't answer. Only picked her up and began back to their room.
"Worth a shot."
——————————
"Down you go."He laid her down on the couch and touched her face, rubbing his thumb over her cheek, which she leaned into.
"I'll get the tub filled, you chill out." He left her side to get the bathtub running. His room had the bigger tub(with jets).
Mari could hear the water running. Too many thoughts were buzzing in her head. She needed, once again, an escape. Coming here wasn't just about the call, it was an escape from the rest of the world. Where else would she go? How could she leave with her life here, with these blossoming feelings? It was a paralyzing, trapped feeling. Entangled in the lust of other beings unlike herself, and definitely, almost certainly some sort of love affair.
Rain peeled his mask off and ran his hands through his hair before replacing the mask on his face. He couldn't believe he just punched Swiss. They were friends, or supposed to be. But Swiss was willing to lunge at her like that? Hit him? All because he wanted a taste of her. Rain couldn't say he would do the same in a logical state, but Swiss is untrained.
Mari has never said no, she hasn't gotten the chance, but to Rain, he didn't want to interrupt unless she was in danger. And with Swiss now, she is.
And yet, he wants her to say no, to shoot Swiss down. To choose him over Swiss. He wants her more than he's wanted anything. But he wants to do it right.
————————"Bath is done." He noticed her walking from her footsteps. He made sure there were bubbles. He turned to look at her from the floor, and he immediately covered his eyeholes and stammered out noises that were incomplete words.
"Mari!" He yelped in surprise, "clothes! Your clothes!"
What he had glimpsed was Mari, naked, her form as natural as the day she was born. She had verata goat horns and ram-like horns too. Small horns. Her tail was exposed and crestless as always. Pale and tinged pink from natural blush.
"I'm getting in the bath." She sighed and smiled at his bashfulness.
"A warning next time?" He still had his eyes covered before she sank into the bubbly scalding water.
"Sure, sorry, I was excited and impatient." She sighed deeply and sank further into the tub.
"None of me is exposed you don't have to cover your eyes."
"I'm still going to." He sounded jittery and uneasy.
She could smell it on him again. It was an unmistakable smell. Even humans put them out, no matter how faint.
She wanted to tease and pry, play with him, but he just took a gut punch for her.
"Do you want in? There's space for two and hot water is good for relaxing." She offered. It was sincere, she wouldn't try anything or even touch him if he wanted the space. But another thing was she couldn't get her back and he didn't have a scrubby loofa thing that could reach.
"Tempting." He mumbled, "fuck it," he changed his tone ever so slightly, "if you want something, take it. It's what my brother says." He mumbled while peeling off his mask.
To Mari's surprise, he had an actual face that didn't resemble the mask completely. Almond shaped eyes, golden irises, pointed ears, shaved horns to fit the mask, 9-10 inch long black hair, Grecian nose, full lips, and a heart shaped face with a 5 o'clock shadow.
He ignored her gaze and started unbuttoning his shirt.
"Could you-" he was about to start on his pants, "could you turn around?"
Mari was almost giddy seeing him like this, vulnerable, expressive, sweet. At this point, she'd do anything for him. She turned around sat with her back on the lip of the tub.
"Cute."
