Summary; Saeyoung's past still comes back to trouble him some nights...}

~ ✮ ~

The room was silent, except for the hum of the air conditioner rattling somewhere in the background. It was warm under the covers, and the stillness of the air let me know that it was the middle of the night. After a moment, the memory of falling asleep cuddling Saeyoung entered my mind, and I shifted over to check on him.

As if roused by my movement, he turned in his sleep to face me, his features looking strained and restless. His hands were clenched into fists, one of them grabbing the bedsheet. His mouth twitched in a frown, and if I listened closely I swear I could hear small whimpers coming from the redhead.

Concerned, I reached out towards his form in an attempt to comfort him. Before I had the chance to make contact, he flinched and gritted his teeth, gripping the sheet tighter. He mumbled something under his breath, in which the only word I could make out was "no". Unsure of what to do, I froze.

Suddenly Saeyoung jerked up, eyes flying open. His gaze, full of confusion, met mine before softening when he realized he had woken up from a dream.

"Are you okay?" I asked, reaching for his hand. He intertwined his fingers with mine, and I noticed he had broken out in a cold sweat. The redhead averted his eyes with what seemed like a hint of shame.

"I'm sorry... it was just a nightmare..."

"No, there's no need to be sorry." I held his hand firmly, and he looked back up at me. "Do you want to talk about it? I'll get you a glass of water."

Saeyoung nodded. "Sure, water would be nice." He smiled warmly, trying to reassure me.

I smiled in response, slipping out of bed and hastily making my way to the kitchen. I urged the water to pour faster, feeling the slightest hint of guilt from leaving him alone right after he woke up from a nightmare. Once I had finally filled the cup, I quickly went back to the bedroom.

Saeyoung was waiting patiently on the bed, his phone in hand as he checked something or other. He set it back on the nightstand and turned towards me, thanking me before taking the glass and starting to sip on it.

"So..." I started, trying to find the right words to pick up the conversation where we had left it. Instead I trailed off, and there was a brief silence between us.

The redhead finished drinking and put the cup beside his phone. "It was about my mom." He explained, seeming noticeably more collected now.

"Oh, okay. I'm sorry..." I fidgeted with my hands, but Saeyoung's intersected mine after a moment, holding them in his.

"It's alright- that happens to me every now and then. I'm just glad I didn't seem to freak you out too much." He chuckled softly.

"No! Of course not. You'd never 'freak me out', Saeyoung." The redhead smiled and I squeezed his hands. "Do you feel like going back to sleep now? We can cuddle if you want."

He nodded, laying down and getting comfortable. He pat the space beside him, inviting me to lay there. I did, resting my head on his arm and placing my hand over his waist. I shifted closer to him, feeling his soft lips against my forehead as his breath rustled my hair. I closed my eyes and let out a sigh, listening to the stillness of the room as I drifted off to sleep.
