TAO • POV
Caspian's first day in the pack was an overall success aside from the incident with Danny in the kitchen earlier that morning. We spent the night in bed together, tangled around one another, kissing sleepily whenever we could and it was one of the best nights sleeps I'd ever had.
I didn't think I'd be able to sleep without Caspian by my side ever again and the thought wasn't as scary as it should've been.
Caspian had been excited for his trial sparing session with the enforcers and I'd also been anticipating taking him out onto the field. However, trying to be strict and remain in control of my enforcers during training the next morning was the hardest thing I'd ever been challenged to do.
All because Caspian was one slightly frustrating, but absolutely gorgeous distraction.
We woke up at four in the morning - although Caspian was over, I couldn't afford to miss a day. Protecting the pack was my job and along with the enforcers, we always needed to be trained and ready. Now was even more important considering our Luna had just given birth and our Alpha was understandably distracted.
However, remaining in that headspace was hard when Caspian was around, especially when he was bouncing around me like a golden retriever despite the early hour of dawn.
He insisted on mixing his protein powder with banana milkshake and then started complaining of hunger before we'd even made it outside to the field to start our training. I'd heard two different nonsense stories in the span of ten minutes and had to dish out more hugs in that same time frame than I had in my entire life.
He was clingy, excitable, adorable and well... It was just so hard to resist him.
When we finally made it out to the spot where the enforcers were waiting, already stretching and bouncing on their toes, they looked over at us, some surprised to see Caspian trailing me excitedly. Ray and Vincent waved, and Caspian waved back, looking at me for permission and when I nodded he was quick to run over to them.
I felt like a physical education teacher trying to control excitable kids during recess.
The three men were all over each other, like this was a ten year reunion and I rolled my eyes as I took up a position at the front of the guys, where we spread out in the green field. I cleared my throat and they quieted down, giving me their full attention. I went through the usual drills, from pushups, sit-ups, lunges and more, getting their muscles warmed up and ready to go.
I kept an eye on Caspian out of the corner of my eyes. He was keeping up easily, his huge body moving so dang tauntingly under the morning sun that my mouth felt dry and my stomach tight every time I dared to peek. The sweat glistened on his pale skin and his muscles bunched and rippled like artwork. Fuck.
I let them rest for a second, and they all sat on the grass panting and chugging their shakes. An arm shot up and I turned to Caspian who was grinning at me, waving his arm in the air with a 'pick me' motion. I nodded patiently for him to go ahead, though he really didn't have to put his hand up as though we were back in elementary school.
"Tao, how come we have to do all these exercises and you don't? Also, do we get paid to be enforcers? Is there a yearly bonus?"
Ray started snickering behind his hand. I scowled. "I'm not doing it because ya'll are the ones who need to be ready for when I kick your asses. And no, you don't get paid Caspian. This is a pack, not a private security firm," I growled at him half heartedly and he nodded, beaming, despite the frustration in my tone.
