CHAPTER TWO ( 🎤 )
september 1995.Daisy Peters was ecstatic.
Sunset Curve was actually playing the Orpheum. The day had come. For the four seventeen year olds, their dream was finally coming true. People were coming to see them. People were excited to see them perform. They had worked so hard to get to this point and they had made it.
Over the last few weeks, Luke had been trying to convince Daisy to perform with them. They'd even practiced Somewhere Only We Know multiple times, just so she could see what it would be like if he was up there. Even Reggie had offered to sing it with her if she wanted. The band had also practiced Now or Never with her.
Sunset Curve was known for their rock music. The songs Daisy wrote fit more in the pop or indie genre, but it obviously didn't bother the boys.
On top of everything, Daisy told Luke she would do sound check with them just to see how she felt. So, that's what they were doing.
They all stood (sit for Alex) by their instruments before Luke did a guitar riff and Alex hit his drumsticks together to signal the start of the song. "One, two, three!"
Daisy pressed her hands against a few of the keys. She knew how to play it, it sounds good. Keyboard in a rock song still felt a little off to her.
Luke began singing. Him, Reggie, and Bobby were all jumping around as they played their guitars.
"Clocks move faster, 'Cause it's all we're after now," she sang with them, her voice adding femininity to the song. She caught Luke's eyes for a split second before Reggie got in her line of vision, sharing the microphone with the Patterson boy.
She continued harmonizing with them at certain parts, even singing with her brother at one line ("We're the revolution that's been singing in the rain"). As they let off on the instruments, each of them clapped to the beat until eventually they hit back with instruments, finishing out the song.
A few of the workers complimented their set, one woman in particular was super excited about it, clapping and yelling for them.
The five of them laughed, glancing at each other. "Thank you! We're Sunset Curve!" Reggie said into his microphone, pointing at the woman behind the bar.
"Too bad we wasted that on the sound check, that was the tightest we've ever played," Bobby said, hitting his arms against Luke's.
"Wait until tonight, man, when this place gets packed with record execs," Luke exclaimed. Daisy stepped closer to her brother.
Reggie came up behind their blond drummer. "Alex, you were smoking," he commented.
Alex turned with a small smile. "Oh, no. I was just warming up. You guys were the ones on fire," he responded nervously. The Mercer boy never really knew how to take a compliment, but the band gave them to him anyway.
