I stood frozen, fear lacing through me. His face was nearly purple with anger and his black eyes flashed with rage. He stalked over to me and I instinctivly raised my arms to protect my face. He raised his arm and smacked them away roughly. Before I could recover, he began smacking and hitting my face. He kicked my feet out from under me and I fell heavily, smacking my elbow on the hardwood floor. He began kicking me as I cowered, covering my face with my arms once again. He kicked my ribs repeatedly, along with my stomach and legs. He bent down and started punching the side of my head. "I hate you! I HATE YOU!" He screamed, beating me as hard as he could. Tears rolled down my cheeks. After what seemed like forever, he stood aside, wiping the sweat from his brow. I looked up tentatively, fear in my blue eyes.
"You don't know what I've been through! " He yelled through my cries. "You don't know what I've done for you!" he screamed and hit me again.

Hours had passed. I stood in front of my mirror, looking less alive then I had in awhile. I lifted up my shirt, finding five branded fingers on my side. Multiple emotions coursed through me as I felt it all, but I refused to cry. I wouldn't let those tears fall. I forced a smile to my face as I thought about my friends and the multiple people in my school. They all thought my life was everything anyone could want it to be. I had plenty of money, a big house, and a nice car. But I would give it all up if I could just have a loving family - a mom and dad that didn't yell at each other, a little sister that didn't have cancer, a dad that didn't beat me every day. They thought my life was perfect. 'If only you knew...' I thought.
