Gear and Felix flopped into the back on an unremarkable grey sedan. They were panting hard as dogs while the driver sped off down the road. Shots rang out after the car. Men had scrambled out of the nightclub Gear and Felix had just escaped from. Gear backed off his jacket quickly to assess the wound on his left upper arm.
It had been two weeks since Uncle Fat's death. They had managed to leverage Uncle Fat's business contacts, and loyalists. Felix used the close contacts of Greg Forest and people of his upper ranks that they were able to bribe and were systemically getting rid of rival gangs. The smaller gangs either sided with them or were eliminated. They had to move fast while the odds were in their favour. They were after all reshaping a world in their image.
They had just removed a major player from the Chinese gang that operated from Bangkok. Soon the would be the largest supplier of guns, ammunition, drugs and everything the underworld needed. This had been their dream since they were teens. To make themselves gods of the underworld.
"It's just a flesh wound, I'll live." Gear grimaced a bit.
"Good."
"Did you see his face?" Gear cackled and winced, "He never saw it coming, did he? Oohh ouch." They ran in bumps on the street. They veered all over the street and drove around to make sure they shook off any one who might be following them. They arrived at their temporary base. They made sure never to stay in the same place too long.
They got out of the car and entered the parking lot for a small hotel. This was one of Uncle Fat's many legitimate businesses. The on-call doctor and his assistant was there waiting to treat them. They had gone in with a small team, to increase their precision and reduce possible casualties. Felix, Gear and two other men. It's better to have a small dedicated team to ensure success, that's how Felix liked it. They struck when it was least expected. In broad daylight when the club was closed to the public. The dragon head leader of the Chinese gang, was busy getting the club ready for the nighttime opening.
They were ticking off names off their hit list. They would eradicate all the five major gangs in the Bangkok area.
Felix sat under a tree later in the evening with his second cigarette. His body ached all over but his mind was racing. He turned the lighter over and over between his fingers, lost in thought. Everything he, Gear and their mentor had been planning for years was going according to plan; that was nerve wracking for him. If there was one thing his mentor taught him was things rarely went to plan. He was analysing the present situation, searching for what could cause all these carefully placed dominos to topple over when his phone rang. He answered without thought.
"Yes?"
He stood up after hearing the voice. Why was she calling?
"What!? What happened? No, I'll come to you. Tell me everything then when I get there."
Shit! He thought, there was the first problem. How did he not forsee this happening? Expect the unexpected, always.
He had to go deal with this matter now and he would have to call his mentor to deliver the bad news. He ran back to the hotel room; his heart pounding. This was a probability he hadn't planned for, and that pissed him off. He was always at least ten moves ahead on the chess board.
"Fuck... Fuck...!" He screamed in his mind.
Guess it was time for a family reunion.
