Snow squinted as a bright light shone into his face. Where was he again? How did he get here? Oh, that was right. Their terrible plan. The plan where they go straight into the belly of the beast with trackers hidden under their skin. They were supposed to learn what they could before they would be rescued. But that didn't keep Snow's heart from racing as he saw the scientists moving about the room, their voices muffled by the masks they wore.
"Nicholas?"
"I'm here, Snow."
"This isn't how it was supposed to go."
"I know..."
Snow gulped and looked at Nicholas.
"Where's Freak?"
"I don't know."
Snow's brows drew together. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Skins had promised it'd be safe. They would get them out before anything could go wrong. Why wasn't she here, rescuing them? He felt so weak... What did they do to him?
"I've heard them call you Snow, but your charts say your name was Jasper, before."
Snow looked at the woman who spoke. She was holding a clipboard and reading over the papers on it.
"What of it?"
Snow said, glaring her way.
"It's just curious, that's all. Why change your name?"
"It's nothing you would understand."
The woman looked at Nicholas.
"Try me."
Nicholas rolled his eyes.
"We're letting go of the old person we used to be. Because that person no longer exists. They're dead and gone and now it's just us. The mutants."
"The abnormalities. The... Product of diseased genes. Monsters, essentially."
Snow laughed and the woman looked at him.
"What's funny?"
"You're afraid of us. That's what's funny. You called us monsters. Oh, god... You're so screwed."
"On the contrary, I do believe I'm quite safe from any of your abilities. The serum you were injected with suppresses the mutant gene inside of you. Unfortunately, it isn't a permanent fix... Though, I'm working on one."
Nicholas jerked in his binds that held him to the exam table, causing the woman to jump away from him.
"Yeah, and what's to save you from just us?"
"Sedatives. I have a solution for most things, Nicholas. You won't harm me. I can't say the reverse is true."
"You'd hurt innocent kids that never did a thing to you. Who is the real monster here?"
Her lips lifted up in one corner.
"Isn't that a great question? Hmm... The majority of the human population says you."
Snow paled.
"What?"
She shrugged and left the room while the scientists came forward in their hazmat suits holding needles and scalpels and syringes that Snow didn't want anywhere near him.
"No! No, no! Get away... Stay away!"
Ice shot from his hand, hitting one of the scientists in the knee. He saw red and his eyes went wide as the scientist started screaming, holding onto the knee with an ice shard through it. He formed another ice shard in his hand and cut the binds quickly. He climbed off the bed and held up his hand as a threat to anyone who came close.
