Snow stared up at the prison with tired eyes, then sighed and turned to Nicholas.
"Ready?"
He looked at Snow with equally tired eyes.
"No..."
They walked toward the prison gates and flashed some ID's, then Nicholas took the guard's arm and winced as he used his ability to make the woman bend to his will.
"We're legit and you're letting us through those gates."
"Yes, right away."
She opened the gates for them and they headed through. Two steps in, Nicholas collapsed. Snow's eyes went large and he helped Nicholas to his feet again.
"Are you alright?"
"No..."
"Can't we cut the simulation?"
Nicholas looked at Snow like he was mad.
"We're not in a simulation. This isn't a simulation, Snow."
This isn't a simulation.
Not a simulation.
This is real.
"Wake up!"
Snow choked and his eyes opened. He was in Narcolepse's room. His skin was on fire and he was covered in sweat.
"Wha... I'm in a simulation..."
"Snow, you have a fever."
"We're supposed to take down the prison."
Snow started sitting up and Narcolepse put a cold hand on his chest and pushed him back down. That was strange... Narcolepse was usually warm.
"You need to rest."
"The prison..."
"Snow."
He stopped fighting when the cold rag touched his burning skin. He hissed a bit, then relaxed and let the cold seep in.
"One night in the rain..."
"Rain?"
"You don't remember?"
Snow closed his eyes and groaned. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been so sick.
"Yesterday. We were helping Books add onto the house, remember? And then it started to rain and you didn't want to go inside until all the tarps were in place to cover all the wood."
Snow coughed and gave a full bodied shiver. How could he be so warm, yet so cold? Narcolepse pulled the blankets over him and stroked Snow's hair. He slowly drifted back to sleep and this time, Narcolepse let him. He headed downstairs and wandered the halls, running his fingertips along the wall as he went. This was a familiar feeling. It was a little nostalgic to be doing this again after so long away... With everything that had happened between the last time and now. Narcolepse came to a stop when he saw the kitchen light on and a shadow moving about. He slowly entered the dining room and looked into the kitchen, finding Nicholas preparing a cup of coffee.
"What are you doing up?"
Nicholas jumped and nearly spilled the sugar everywhere.
"Shit. You're freakishly quiet..."
Nicholas looked over at him after setting the sugar down very carefully and cautiously.
"I can't sleep."
"Yeah, no shit. Probably all the coffee you're drinking."
"No, I mean... I can not sleep."
"Why?"
