Avery was always a happy girl. She lived with her stepdad in a small house in the forest. The next neighbor was almost 5 miles away. Even though she wasn't allowed to make friends or go to school, she loved to play by herself in the forest. She was only six at that time. Avery would just wander around and play with her dog. She had a dog her whole life. The dog was older than Avery herself. Hawking, a beautiful golden retriever, would always protect her when something would happen. One time, a lost and scared fox, tried to attack the young girl. Just because the fox thought that the girl was a threat. Hawking barked and growled. Avery wasn't afraid, but stepped away. The fox ran away and Hawking looked at her. As if he smiled. They both enjoyed life. Her stepdad Brian, on the other hand, hated it when she was by herself. He couldn't take it when he wasn't useful. Avery was very independent, and he just got very annoyed and sad at the same time when she acted that way. The problem was, that that just was who she was. She didn't need anyone and loved to explore on her one with her dog.
Avery got older and older and when she was nine, the unthinkable happened. When she was home alone, because her dad was always working very late, and she felt like exploring the woods with Hawking again. She made a tree hut a month ago. It wasn't very high up in a tree. Just because Hawking couldn't get it that way. It also wasn't very big, but big enough for a girl and a dog. The wooden planks were beautiful and strong. There was a homemade table inside. Just as large, so Avery wouldn't need a chair. With some stairs, that she also made herself, the sweet dog could get in. Avery was trying to find as many ways as possible to go to her hut. In the hut, she would play games with her dog. She trowed a tennis ball out of the self-made window, and Hawking would always get it for her. Afterwards, they were very tired, and she accidentally fell asleep slowly on Hawking's belly for a few hours.
When Avery woke up, it was almost dark. There was no sunlight coming through the window anymore, and it was getting colder. Hawking was already up and looked at the girl in the hope he would get a small treat. His eyes were bright and sweet. Avery couldn't resist it and gave him some. She claimed out of her hut and began walking home, taking the route that was the fastest. ''Hawking come! Let's go, we need to hurry!'' She yelled because Hawking was sniffing a tree. The dog jumped up and ran toward her. ''Good boy!'' She knew that Brian would get furious because she had to stay inside if he was at work. She always tries to sneak out, and it normally works fine, but now, she was screwed. She ran towards her house, jumping over a tree. Avery was almost home but she couldn't see Hawking. She looked back and a loud bang followed. Everything was black and the girl lied on the groud...
