It was dark. There were soft voices around the girl. A high pitch tone was ringing in her ear and she tried to open her eyes slowly. Bright lights almost blinded her for a second, and she squeezed her eyes together. ''Oh my god, she's up!'' A low and manly voice came closer, and Avery tried to understand what was happening or what he was saying. When she tried to move, it didn't happen. Her body wasn't listening, but Avery wasn't thinking something behind this.
When she finally could open her eyes a little, she looked around the room. It was a dirty hospital room. The lights that were shining in her eyes almost broke down. It looked like a sort of old hospital setting, and there were even tiles on the wall. The man that walked towards her looked like a surgeon. He smelled horrible and his green clothing was filthy. There even were fluids on the floor and later on, she saw it was red. Blood...? Her blood...? The bed, more a table where she laid, was hard and cold. Actually, the whole room was cold. There weren't that many supplies, but she saw a sort of surgery knife. Her neck was already tired, just because her muscles were, you can say, ruined.
The man came closer, and Avery heard another man enter the disgusting room. She couldn't see that good because of the lights in her eyes, but she saw brown hair peeking trough. Brian? She heard a loud gasp. ''It's true! You're really awake!'' Avery tried to ask what happened, but no sound came out of her mouth. She tried again. Same result. The surgeon, she thought, tried to explain. ''You were in a sort of accident. You were hit by a...'' Brian poked him with his elbow. ''Um, you hit a tree when you ran and fell on a rock with your head. We don't know how, but you can't talk anymore. Avery, you might want to prepare for this news...'' Avery listed carefully with big eyes in fear. She began breathing heavily. Brian didn't give a kick and stared in the room. ''Your ability to talk is gone... And it might be forever...'' Even though she couldn't talk and scream, the shock was big. ''Also... You're paralyzed. We don't know if we can fix it. It's from your hips and down. We can't do anything. We have some painkillers and good luck. Make sure you leave soon. Bye.'' He walked away.
