On the surface// kenya x Satoru fanfic

Background

Kenya knows he is gay and has liked Satoru since they started being friends. Even with his feelings after a while he got good at hiding them to not get in the way of their friendship. Kenya likes messing with Satoru to make him flustered, he thinks it's cute. While Satoru was in his coma Kenya would visit everyday talking to him, keeping him up with everything that happened, and reading to him. With him visiting so often Kenya grew really close to Satoru's mom and would often help take care of him. Kenya would have long talks with his mom and he would tell her stories about when they were young, oftentimes about the hide out. Although Kenya became a lawyer he secretly wanted to be a singer and song writer. He would sing his songs to Satoru as he slept. Kenya always would brush Satoru's hair, he liked how soft Satoru's hair was and it always calms him. Kenya often subconsciously held Satoru's hand while he talked to him. Kenya blames himself for Satoru's coma but he refused to cry in-front of Satoru so he wouldn't worry him in case he could hear him. Kenya spent many nights in the hospital and he would refuse to sleep on the couch just so Satoru's mom was comfortable. He would sleep in the chair beside Satoru's bed many times still holding his hand. Even though it makes him sad Kenya cherishes the time he spent with Satoru in his coma.

Satoru always got butterflies around Kenya but he doesn't know why. He knew his mom helped him when in his coma but he never knew that Kenya did too. He never knew how Kenya visited him every day. He felt someone's presence but didn't know who it was though it felt comforting. Though it felt short he felt lonely so he loved the presence. When he woke up Satoru found adult Kenya very handsome. He also find Kenya's voice very calming and like to sit there and listen to his voice though he doesn't talk much he loves when he does. Satoru isn't sure about his sexuality or more like he thinks he's straight. When he finds out about Kayo and her baby he thought he would be upset but he wasn't instead he was relieved. He was relieved that she didn't wait for him. He wasn't sure why but he thought it was because he didn't think he was good enough and he would end up hurting her. Satoru thought he liked Kayo but now he's questioning if he ever did. Since Satoru finally has his mother back for real he no longer misses the opportunities to spend time with her. Though she wants him to move out and live on his own so he ended up moving in with Kenya. Though they visit his mom all the time for dinner and to help out.

The story takes place a month before Satoru moves in with Kenya. One year after Mr. Yashiro was arrested.
