"Hey, look, even if you don't love
her yet, you should still ask her. I mean, if you don't, I guarantee another guy will. Like, the whole grade is in love with her. You'll fall in love with her eventually. Besides, it's nit like you're gonna marry her, although I wouldn't blame you should you want to," Alex said, currently trying to persuade Jacob to ask out this girl who, he just found out, has a very huge crush on him.
"Look, Alex I get what you mean, but honestly, I just don't like Marina like that. She seems great but, I don't wanna ask out someone I don't like, and I don't wanna lead her on or anything." Jacob has known Marina has liked him for quite some time, and he was flattered to actually be noticed my someone from the popular group, but he never knew she liked him that much. Marina is popular, and pretty and rich, she could have any other guy in the school. But of course, she has to go for the one who thinks that she's just stuck up, the one guy who doesn't like her as "as much as he should" according to Alex.
"Okay, you know what? I'll make a deal. How about we get the gang, and we all go to town. I'll get Marc to ask Marina to come with all of us, and I'll bring Elizabeth. I doubt she'll mind coming with us." Alex proposed.
"If you still don't like her by the end of the day, we can say it was just Marc asking her. He does owe you from last month. If you find out you like her, like you should, you'll ask her tomorrow, you know, just the two of you."
Knowing he won't win this, Jacob agreed. But he knew, that nothing would change his opinion on Marina.
Alex soon got everyone else, and Marc agreed to ask her, considering he does owe Jacob pretty good. As they walked over to town Marina slowly started walking up against Jacob and trying to start a conversation about something from school today. But Jacob wasn't paying attention to her. He was too focused on the group of people running towards them, no doubt practicing for the track meet soon. As they came closer he got a glimpse of the leader. A man, probably a sophomore and behind him a group, mostly of girls, but there were three other guys. As they passed one of the girls running by accidentally ran into Jacob causing him to drop his two books on the floor.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry! I wasn't paying attention, ugh, I was just listening to music. I didn't even see you. I apologize." The girl said, instantly bending down to help the guy pick up the mess she caused.
"No, no, it's cool. Hey you look familiar, you a junior?" Jacob knew he has seen her before, maybe not at school, but definitely somewhere. He just couldn't figure out where.
"No, freshmen. Just moved here. Again, I am so sorry about your stuff, but I need to catch up with the rest of the group. Have a good day." And with that, she ran off, sweat dripping from her forehead.
"Omg, Jaky, omg are you ok? I swear if that-"
"I'm fine Marina, she helped up and everything," Jacob interrupted her, not really wanting to know what she was going to call the girl he just met.
"And please don't call me Jaky, it brings back bad memories."
Marina, of all people should know that. 'Jaky' is not something he ever wanted to hear again, and if that was how Marina was trying to flirt, Jacob has no idea how she ever got popular, or how guys ever liked her, and how they still do.
"Oh, of course. I should've remembered... I am so sorry," Marina says, Now imitating the brown haired girl in the blue sports bra and black and gray pants that knocked over his books.
"Ya, ya. I bet you are" Jacob mumbled, resulting an elbow in the stomach and a harsh glare from Alex.
As the evening went on, Marina flirted constantly with Jacob, but his mind was no where near Marina. He was racking his brain, trying to figure out where he knew that girl from. He knew it shouldn't bother him so much, but Jacob had this need to know. So instead of wasting his time listening to Marina flirt, and his friends try to play wingman, he said he had to go home early.
"Awe, are you sure you have to go Jacob? We were having so much fun! I'll miss you!"
All of Jacobs friends instantly look at him, waiting for his answer.
"Ya, I'll miss you all too," Jacob says, eye contact staying with Alex, not daring to look at Marina. What does a guy have to do to get a girl to realize he isn't interested? Jacob, deciding to leave before things go bad for him, walks off and makes sure to not look back, knowing if he does, he will be getting disapproving looks from his friends and a confused or mad look from Marina. But enough about them. That girl, that chestnut haired girl that was running with the track kids. He knows her. He know he knows her, and now, he's gonna find out where he knows her from. So, instead of going home like he said, he's going to the track course.
