"You didn't drive?" I asked.
Chuckling, he pulled the chair and sat opposite me "late night walk after dining together is worth remembering, you see."
I gave in to his words and let out a laugh. The host upon seeing us both, approached again and abruptly greeted us with some booze.
"Here's to our sweet couple tonight" the host exclaimed, followed by convincing smiles of people around.
We both shared an awkward gaze, and I laughed the situation off. With me thanking the host, he soon left our table and I turned to him.
"Was that necessary?"
'it was. I laughed cause it's true to me, at the least.' was what I wanted to tell him. However, leaving those words unspoken, I reassured him with a smile and stood up to take my leave.
"She's here," I said as I saw her entering and searching for him.
"Hey," he thought twice and looked at me "thank you again. I was so nervous, but having you here eased me. I won't mess up."
You've already messed my heart up. I despise his words. It always surges defeating emotions within me.
Slightly nodding, I took my leave and walked near her. "He's right there" I pointed, to which she beamed a smile and thanked me.
She's pretty and such a pure soul, how could I possibly hate her?
I'm defeated.
As I wandered down the cold street, I turned my last galnce to the inside of the window. It was warm. Love was in the air. However, in an instant second, my heart grew cold as I sighted him on his knees with a ring box held.
"What if I was there?" I uttered, and soon tossing that thought away, I walked home.
We're perfect together, but I'll never be The one.
