Sipping my wine, I watched the guests congratulating the newly engaged couple. The engagement party was a success with those two being the prestige of the event.
"Hey how about a best friend shoot!!!" Sam exclaimed all excited with his DSLR held high. Then, with every eyes focused at me, I was pretty much the new attention of the party.
"Um. -- I'm afraid I won't be--- " hesitatingly I shrugged my shoulders and waved the wine in my hand.
"Ahh c'mon don't be such a mood killer" Sam grumbled and I shot back an apologetic smile.
As I sat there enjoying my company, he stepped down the stairs and those steps were outright directed towards me.
"Can we talk for a moment?" He asked. His face was stern and clasping my wrist, he walked us away from the crowd.
"Congratulations. I'm happy for you" I chuckled.
"Is that the face of someone happy?" He raised his eyebrow and wiped a tear from my face. I was startled and took a step back.
"I am." I asserted, although he could see right through my lies.
"Will you be honest? This is disturbing, Why are you being this pretentious? I thought we were best friends? Do you loathe it?"
"No." I forced a smile. "I liked you."
