chapter one
croissants and pretzelsThe bells ring indicating another customer is coming in.
It's a never ending thing.
"Hello, how are you?" I say, with a smile edging across my face.
"I'm fine," she says before grabbing a tray and a tong. She heads towards the pastries and picks out whatever she desires.
She hands out the tray filled with croissants and pretzels.
"How much?" she asks as she rummages through her bag to find her purse. I begin packing the pastries into a brown paper bag.
"Four dollars, please."
She hands me the notes while smiling at me.
"Thank you so much." I quickly pasted some tape to close the paper bag and handed it to her. She smiles at me once more before grabbing the bag and leaving.
I let out a sigh before walking over to the kitchen where my grandma is at.
"Tired?"
"Yup," I reply before trying to grab a chocolate chip cookie. She then swats my hand away with her spatula.
"For the customers."
"Ouch, you're not even giving one to your favourite grandaughter?"
Right after I say that the bells ring. I sigh once more before jogging towards the counter.
This boy.
He's been coming here ever since advent started.
And he's always sweating when he's here. No offense to him but it stinks.
And just like I guessed, he brought a tray of two large chocolate chip cookies and walked towards me.
"Hello."
