! SPOILERS FOR HARRY POTTER !

SEPTEMBER 1st 1998

Hogwarts reopened once more. Everyone had dreaded what was to come. Had Hogwarts fallen into the hands of the Death Eaters? Most probably yes, it was compulsory to go by law. Even the staff weren't at ease. Well, what remained of the original staff, anyway. Each had troubled dreams, but none more so than Minerva McGonagall.
Her entire life had fallen apart just 3 months prior. Her best friend dead, the other the one to kill him. She tossed and turned, her nightmares reaching its height, and-

"MERLIN'S BEARD, DUMBLEDORE!"

Snape's yell, no, yelp echoed through the castle and Minerva woke with a start. What on EARTH was Severus yelling about? Wait...Dumbledore? Minerva sat , confused why Severus would say Dumbledore of all people but decided it was too tricky to tackle and pushed it out off her mind. The students were coming shortly and she had to prepare. The classroom had to be Carrow-proof before 9 o'clock, and she hadn't even started. As she walked along the corridors, she saw the other professors. They all looked as grim as she. They gave stiff nods and walked their separate ways. No noise was heard through the castle. It was darker than usual and the morning breeze was not refreshing and comforting, but bitter and cold.

"Are you awake yet, Severus?" Dumbledores voice came from the portrait on the wall.
"Yes, Albus, now get your bloody bird off me, it's pecking my eyes out!" Severus snapped, fending his arms off from the phoenix.
"Do not be alarmed, Fawkes normally acts like this around injury. However did you hurt your arms, Severus?"
"Never mind that! We have to prepare, Albus, what will become of the students when they arrive? Which ones need the most protection?" Severus asked, clearly not willing to discuss his injuries.
"Severus, Severus! You just woke up, surely you should relax? Take a walk?" Dumbledore suggested.
"And get cold looks from Minerv-- the staff every corner I turn? No thanks. It's to you I can't have a moment's damn peace." Severus said icily.
Dumbledore sighed.
"The Carrows are in charge of punishment?"
"Naturally," Severus said, taken aback by the sudden change of topic.
"Then Miss Lovegood, Mr Longbottom, Miss Sealber and several others we'll discuss later could do with an extra eye out" Dumbldore put forward.
"Sealber? Mary Sealber? She is of my house." Severus asked.
"Well, she isn't so anti-muggle as one would suspect." Dumbldore replied. Severus stared at him for a while.
"What time is it, Severus?" Dumbledore inquired.
"9:30-ish, I think"
"Well then, off you go," the headmaster then cried out, "To a day of learning!" and lifted an invisible glass.
Severus sighed, shook his head and followed.
"To a day of learning. I'll thank God if it's the last."
