The Corrupted Crystal

A Human and a Corrupted Spirit

I gained my consciousness after the slumber. My eyes were closed and the environment felt cool just like how it was some time before. I opened my eyes and sat up. Everything was dark as it was before.

"Oh, you're finally awake"

An unfamiliar voice came behind me. I turned behind and saw somewhat a type of spirit who sat cross-legged with the same four legged creature.

"Ellie! Be careful with them!"

Starius' voice was heard as he hid behind the leaves.

"Are you a cosplayer of some sort?"
She asked.

"Cosplayer? What is that?"
I was left confused.

"Aren't you pretending to be a character of some animation or game?"

"What is all that?"
My confused expression was very clear to that spirit.

"Urm, how aren't you aware of all this? I'm pretty sure every human knows what a character is."

The creature barked and it did not sound friendly at all. It seemed impatient.

"Fluffy don't scare her! She's no danger!"

It ran towards me. As a defense, I waved my hands to grow a crystal from the mushy ground and nearly hit it.

"Fluffy!"

I got up and ran away with the leaves rustling. I ran out of that area and entered a new area. Pillars with orbs glowing Divine Light and the ground was hard.

The creature barked as it ran towards me. I held my hair clip and summoned the wand. Ribbons appeared behind me and strapped it down.

"Oh how everything has changed!"
I said with a glee.

As I went closer to it, the spirit threw rocks at me but failed to aim.

"Please don't hurt my dog! He's my only friend!"
Cried the spirit as she stood infront of it.

"If you're gonna kill him, kill me with him too!"

"Your mere creature tried to kill me, why should I spare him?"

I pointed my wand at her face just to scare her out. For a while, she did not move nor attacked me. I was impressed of her bravery.

"Tell me, how are you not scared of someone who has power over you"

She stood silent.

I waved my hand and a crystal came behind the creature. It whined and the spirit fell.

"Stop! He was trying to protect me! I was responsible for him. Kill me instead!"
She begged while her eyes watered.

I gave a thought that she might be right but I felt it would be wrong of me to kill someone who is completely defenceless. I waved my wand and the ribbons disappeared from it.

"Stop crying. For someone who's strong, crying and begging is the weakness and you would be prone to be killed."

She looked up while the creature licked her, that felt disgusting.

"Tell me, who are you? And who sent you here?"
I bent down to her.

"Huh?"
She sounded confused.

"Who are you and who sent you here?"
I said it louder while holding her face.

"Uhm... I'm Ophelia... A human who has no worth in society.."

Oh. A human. They seem similar to me. But why did she say she was worthless? What is society? I had many questions I needed to ask.

I left her face while her blue and orange eyes were filled with tears. I sat down beside her and patted her back softly.

"Ophelia, why do you consider yourself worthless?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"Every spirit is worthy of something if not everything and cannot be perfect. Even I am not perfect as a royalty but I am worth it."

Ophelia's face had more tears dripping from her cheeks and stood still.

"How are you sure I'm worthy?"
Her voice sounded shattered.

Was this the normal mentality of the humans? Were they always low on self-esteem? Not even the corrupted spirits of Ruvia are low on self esteem.

I guess it would be a good idea to study these humans.
