Louis sat at the table Linda had plopped him into and shook his leg nervously. Harry hadn't even remembered him. They'd only met twenty-four hours ago! Was he really that forgettable? Was Harry just pretending to get Louis to leave him alone? For gods sake why did Louis even go up to him in the first place he was completely out of his league.

Linda returned, interrupting his thoughts and tossed a newspaper in front of him.

Local mother and son in
devastating car accident.

Anne Cox, and her 19 year old son, Harry Styles, were admitted to St. Bernard's Hospital on Tuesday after their car swerved off of the road and hit a tree.

Louis' breath hitched and his stomach dropped as he continued reading.

Ms. Cox told us that she and her son had been on the way to the surf shop to buy her daughter a gift for her upcoming birthday when a dog ran out into the road.

"I don't remember a lot of it. I swerved away from the dog and the airbag deployed and the rest was a blur." She stated.

Anne's injuries included a broken wrist and some bruised ribs but she made a full recovery. Her son, however, was not as fortunate.

"Harry hit his head." She admitted, distraught.

Harry was comatose for a month and six days. When he woke, at first, all seemed fine.

"The doctors did lots of tests and scans," Anne told us.

And what they found was devastating. We spoke to a doctor who analyzed Harry's state to get further information.

"Harry's condition is unique." Doctor Martin Donald, a neurologist at Hawaii Pacific University explained. "He had a lot of damage to his prefrontal cortex. That's the part of the brain that effects short term memory. Harry has all of his memories from before the accident but he has no recollection of the accident itself or any of the days after it. Every day when Harry goes to sleep, it's like someone erases everything on the chalkboard. All his memories are gone."

Louis was shaking. Harry hadn't been pretending.

"He...really didn't know who I was." He breathed, astonished.

Linda shook her head.

"Every day that boy wakes up, thinking it's the day before the accident. He couldn't remember if he tried." She replies.

"But...this article is from two thousand and thirteen! Hasn't anyone told him yet?" Louis asked, shocked.

"Of course! But there's no need. It makes him upset and he won't remember it when he wakes up anyways!" She huffs.

Louis stares at the table thinking of something else to say.

"Is it reversible?" He asks hopefully.

"No." Linda says solemnly. "But you're missing my point. I see that look in your eye. I know you like him-"

And uh, what?

Louis interrupts.

"I don't even know him!"

"But you want to. I know you do." Linda says and Louis sighs because she has a point. "But kid there is not a chance that it'll work out between you two. You have to know that. And even if it did, what would happen if you woke up next to him on your honeymoon and he didn't know who you were? Do you know how much that would hurt?" Linda continues.

Marriage? Jesus Christ he's spoken a handful of words to the guy.

"Just leave him alone, okay?" Linda finishes. She's not being mean about it, she's warning him.

Authors note: Hiiiii so this is pretty short too I'm sorry but it's an update so yay. I'm not a doctor I know like nothing about the brain so I googled "which part of the brain contains short term memory" and prefrontal cortex popped up so idk if that's even correct but pretend it is or correct me if I'm wrong! Thanks for reading! The next update will be soon hopefully, I've got exams coming up so we'll see. Make sure to vote and comment! Love you all!
