“Angel, get down! You’re gonna fall!” a black-haired girl called up to her white-haired friend, who had decided to climb up a tall tree. He smiled, and looked down at her with a smug grin.
“I’ll be fine Mia!” Angel shot back from his perch, dragging out the “i” on fine, and giggling. “Don’t be such a worry wart, try and live a little!” He joked at her, standing up tightrope-style on the branch, causing his friend to give a squeak in worry.
“Sorry that I don’t want you to break your head open!” Mia retorted, looking worryingly at the branch xe stood on. Angel laughed slightly, bouncing a bit to tease his friend.
“Alright, alright, I’ll get down!” They laughed. As xe began to move to climb down however, their foot slipped away from the branch and they began falling down the tree towards the ground. Mia could only let out a scream, unable to stop it.
Instead of him hitting the ground however, he found himself caught by two arms. They looked over at the person who caught them, meeting a pair of red eyes behind red-rimmed glasses. Mia let out a small sigh of relief, while Angel was doing his best to keep his mouth shut tight to not make any noise.
“Are you alright Angel?” the boy asked. Angel could only nod, trying to keep his face from burning. The boy who caught them was named Inpu, a smart and pretty strong kid in the village who was being considered for a guard apprenticeship.
And also Angel’s long-time crush.
A quick glance around would reveal that he’d dropped a book to run over to save Angel.Inpu placed Angel on the ground as Mia ran up to the two. Although the two had started talking, Angel was much too lost in xyr thoughts to actually hear anything they were saying.
Eventually Inpu left, Angel barely managing to say goodbye to him as he walked away, picking up his book. He waved at Angel, smiling softly, and they waved back, hoping they didn’t look a mess.
Mia looked at her friend with a mix of annoyance, teasing, and slight concern. She cleared her throat to get her friend to stop staring after xeir crush. Angel could only smile sheepishly back.
“I told you you would fall.” were the first words out of her mouth at them. Angel didn’t respond, and made a point not to look her in the eye as xyr lips pursued. “But I can bet you’re not to upset at that, since Inpu caught you.” She teased with a raised eyebrow. Angel’s cheeks lit up and he covered his mouth with a hand.
“You know, if you like him so much, you should just ask him out.” She smirked, poking them lightly. Angel glared back jokingly.
“I’ll ask Inpu out, when you ask Laki out.'' They returned. She gasped, dramatically putting a hand on her chest, and stuck her tongue out in response, and soon the two fell into a fit of laughter.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Angel clapped from xyr seat as Mia and Laki kissed, as did everyone else at the wedding. Once they separated, Laki continued to hold his bride close as his floral patterned dress moved in the breeze.Anyone could clearly see the love the two newlyweds had for each other. Jupiter, as the town’s lord, stood between them as the officiant, and the teenager looked slightly out of place behind the two lovebirds.
Angel leaned his head on Inpu’s shoulder, their boyfriend jolting slightly at the sudden connection before melting into it. Inpu grabbed their hand and squeezed it slightly. The two watched as the newlyweds walked down the aisle, Jupiter and the guests following behind for the reception.
People had quickly begun dancing and laughing with each other, Laki and Mia pretty much never leaving each other's side during the party. The entire town was bursting with joy about the marriage, but it was clear no one was happier than they were.
Even Jupiter seemed to be having fun, and considering he had recently turned 15 and orphaned, that was quite a feat to accomplish.
Angel and Inpu hadn’t even been watching the bride as she threw the bouquet, unaware of it as the two sat talking to one another happily. It only became apparent to the two it had even been thrown when it smacked Angel square in the back of the head.
Laki had been the first of the crowd to laugh, but he had also been the second to check on Angel. Only after Inpu himself of course.
Angel had barely been able to answer either of the men due to their own laughter.
All in all, it was a magnificent and joyous wedding. It was doubtful anything else would be able to top it anytime soon.
The sky was clear, spare for a few clouds, decorating the warm orange to rose sunset sky.
Once Angel recovered from his fit of laughter, xei leaned on their boyfriend, looking over at his long time best friend.
She was smiling at her new husband, so brightly it rivaled the sun itself.
Angel smiled. This moment, this entire day had been nothing short of perfect, and no doubt would be the most memorable day of the little town for a long time.
The sky was as solemn as the town seemed to be, two graves having just recently been buried now being pelted with rain. A little boy sat inside Inpu and Angel’s house, sitting on a chair while swinging his legs back and forth.
Angel looked at the little boy, who was maybe only 4, sadly. The boy’s parents had just died, and he had no other family to go to. The villagers all agreed together to take care of the kid, and for now he was staying with Inpu and Angel.
Angel looked out the window, a prominent question on his mind.
What were the names of the boy’s parents again?
