It was a bright, sunny day. Yeah, Bark thought it was perfect, but really, it wasn't.
It was all in his head. Everything that he saw, butterflies flapping about, LeafWings flying and chatting with each other, his parents — and his younger brother — asleep, was fake.He was actually in war, in war with SkyWings.
Why was he in a war with the SkyWing tribe? Well, the LeafWings were living in Pyrrhia — with the RainWings (and they were very nice, Bark thought) — and suddenly, Bark heard the sounds of roaring, the hissing sounds of fire, dragons hissing, everything you'd hear in a fight.
He shook his head. Bark tried to forget that memory. "Bark," his RainWing friend, Indy, yelled out, flying up to the LeafWing. "Where's Berry? I need to find him and Cactus!" Bark looked around, then back at Indy. "I don't.. I'll find them, you find their egg," He looked at his talons. "And grab my brother while you're at it."
"Treeleaf?" Indy asked sadly, putting his purple wing over Bark. "Are you sure —?" "Yes, I am. Treeleaf won't be safe; not while the SkyWings are still attacking. If he dies..." Bark bit his tongue. "If he dies to a SkyWing, I won't have any other family left." Indy looked at Bark with sad eyes, then his ears perked up; Bark's going up too.
They both looked at each other, then flew up. They saw an orange SkyWing look around, carrying a spear, and... something small in his talon. It looked like it was wriggling, like it was trying to get out of the SkyWing's talon (which would be every little creature's first instinct).
Bark's eyes widened. "NO!" He barked, swirling towards the orange dragon, his teeth bared, and his claws sharpened. "LET GO OF MY BROTHER, YOU IDIOTIC SKYWING!" The SkyWing looked at Bark for a moment, then gave a grim smirk. "You want it? Come and get it," he growled, waving the small dragonet around in the air.
"CALLING ALL SKYWINGS!" He bellowed, throwing the dragonet up. Bark swooped down as fast as he could, grabbing the green young dragon, and landing in the closest tree he could slither away in. Hopefully the SkyWing's won't see us, He thought to himself, rubbing the baby dragon's leafy frill.
He smiled. "It's good to see you, Treeleaf."
