"DADDY WAIT! PLEASE." I whined.
"Draya, daddy has to go." he murmured as he nudged me off.
"DADDY PLEASE! ILL BE GOOD."
He kneeled down and kissed my head and walked out.
And that was the last time, the very last time.
That I seen my father.
It's four years later, I'm sixteen.
I live smack dead in the middle of heat and sorrow.
Toronto.
Here in this apartment with my mother.
I was currently running around the track at school. I guess I was on one of my good days.
"DRAYA!" Andre yelled.
I stopped and turned around catching my breath.
"Yeah?"
"Movies tonight?"
I smiled.
"You asking me on a date?" I blushed.
"Shit maybe, It depends on what you say?"
"..What time." I playfully rolled my eyes.
"Don't worry bout that, just be ready." he bit his lip and pinched my butt and walked off.
"Damn." I said to myself.
I continued running then headed in 10 minutes before the bell so I could shower.
In the mist of putting my clothes on I heard the girls gossiping as usual.
"Draya? We hear Andre asked you on a date?"
"And if he did?" I said as I pushed my hair out my face putting my blue joggers on.
"We would just say be careful."
"Maybe I'm a dangerous one myself."
"Draya... we use to be close, and before your dad left. you weren't this person! I know you..." Kendra sighed.
I popped a cigarette in the corner of my lip.
"Welp, you know how that shit goes" I said as the cigarette bounced in the corner of my lip, I grabbed my bag and walked around her and walked out.
"Get rid of the contraband Rodriquez."
"Choke on a dick Ms.Carter." I said as I walked outside and lit my cigarette.
I inhaled the smoke then released it.
"Stressing?" I heard from behind me.
"Me? Hell no, just thinking about shit that's all"
"Yeah of course. Those were always your favorite words."
"What the hell do you want Jamie?" I shot.
"Nothing at all. But I want you to remember who went out of their way to be by your side when your father left you, yeah that's right, me and my mother were there for you and did everything we could for you and your mom. Your mom appreciates it a lot but you at like we are the one to lift you when in reality we are the ones trying to help you Draya.." she shot.
I sighed.
"Yeah ok... I'm sorry alright, it's just became a forced habit of mine to start being rude you know I guess it makes me feel better. But don't get me wrong I am thankful for what you and Miss Latoya did for us, I couldn't be any more thankful actually." I murmured as I looked down.
"Look I know you got a date tonight so I won't hold you up, but shit, you walk around here all by your lonesome and I don't see you hang out with anybody because you pushed all your friends away, shit all morning I was surprised to hear Andre asked you out and that you accepted, Draya I won't tell anybody about this little heart-to-heart but if you ever need me I'm always here okay."
"Yeah okay..." I hustled my coat on and began to walk home.
I didn't give a fuck about the rest of the school day.
I got home, too no surprise my mom was still working.
I dropped my bag and my dog must've hear because he came running.
"Hey rex." I smiled and I hurried up to my room, opened my closet door and began to look for an outfit for tonight. I had no idea in the world what I was going to wear. And who better was there to Call than my one and only friend, baddest bitch ever, Brittany.
"Girl get over here now." I said
"Sure thing."
I hung up and still searched and anticipated my wait on Britt.
